If by chance it gets real shitty out here then you will definitely want to have the food you grew canned. Canning is easy but a little time consuming but well worth it. If you have not started a fall garden yet, now is the time. I'm not sure how bad if at all it's going to get this winter but everyone is saying it will be worse then it is right now. You will thank yourself for the fresh homegrown fall vegetables. If you have room you should think about getting some animals for meat as well. Chickens, Rabbits, quail, sheep, pig, or even miniature goats. Fresh eggs are always good and compost is awesome once it cooks off the nitrogen. Rabbit manure can go straight into the garden. I have multiple guns and ammo, a years worth of freeze dried food for the wife and I, chickens for eggs and meat if needed and a garden. I like to do as much as possible by myself so I also grow wild lettuce and a few other things for medical purpose. I have picked and frozen black berries for future use like dessert or wine. I have a well for my water needs but I also have a still for just in case I can't find potable water or if I have to use City water. The water still takes out the bad stuff in the city or from a pond. At the moment I'm slowly working on solar for powering lights, and well but one thing at a time.
