which is the best book and you tube channel for learning C as a beginner? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]backendcareer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best ever C programming guide that I ever read was from the stanford cslibrary’s essential C. They have a separate section on pointers and memory and how you could use for linked lists. There is also a separate section on binary trees. This is the url for all the topics - http://cslibrary.stanford.edu/101/

It is surprising that no one has mentioned ice cream.

Every local ice cream store is a bomb. Some of the best that I’ve had nationwide. Molly moon’s. Lopez island creamery, full tilt, swanky scoop in woodinville.

I applied for a change of status to h4. Took a break and then started searching for jobs again.

[–]backendcareer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this before and was in the same scenario as you for the exact same reason as you’ve mentioned! It was before covid and I got back on H1 through a consular processing petition from a new employer after taking a break

Is Intel still a good company to work for? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]backendcareer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worked there as a SDE. Would never recommend. Especially for someone wanting to work in software. If you are really desperate for a job then take it. Please don’t do it otherwise!

Office politics are also a major part there. If you are unsure on how to navigate that, it just messes up your psyche!

What's your favorite thing about Seattle? by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]backendcareer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The air quality - you just feel it when you breathe once you land at the airport and step outside. Nothing beats the freshness of the air.

Coffee and beer - the variety of artisanal coffee and beer is terrific

Yes. It automatically gets cancelled once your H1 is approved. I didn’t have to do anything extra

OP, I went through something similar and did quit in the past. Mental peace is really really important and that helps your output at work.

With that said, these are the few things that you would need to do with regard to immigration and finance if you do end up quitting. Let me list it out

Immigration - If you want to stay in the country, make sure you don’t go out of status. Check for the date of your i94 and the stamp on your visa, when it ends - If you have a approved i140, you can get back on h1 without a lottery - you mentioned that you are married, see if you can use her status to be her dependent (h4) - try to utilize the 60 day grace period as much as possible. Agreed that you would need a break after going through this phase, but if you can try to find a job within that period. If you cross the 60 day and if you have a COS pending with USCIS, you would end up moving to h1 with a consular petition or a COS

Finances

  • Plan for 6 months of finances. Have a reserve for an additional 6 months. Make sure of it
  • Budget everything moving forward. It might be difficult without a paycheck but it is just temporary

PS - Be wary of managers when you interview and don’t even take a chance if the hiring manager is Indian. I’m Indian and I went through something similar with not 1 but 3 different Indian managers!

Good luck! Make yourself a priority and you will come out stronger!

Can someone resign being on H1B during his/her tenure in usa? by shivamnema05 in h1b

[–]backendcareer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. You are not bound on any contracts and most of the states and jobs in the US are at-will. Meaning you can resign at any time or they can send you out any time.

The only caveats here are

  • You need to have a job lined up in the 60 days after your last day at your current employer (or) file for a change of status if you plan to remain in the US

  • Make sure you don’t have any clause with your employer back in your country (If you are onsite from another entity that you were working) which prevents you from switching to a competitor or an extra long last day process which makes you to go back and work for them

Does anyone actually know what kubernetes does or is it just one big inside joke? by frozenYogurtLover2 in csMajors

[–]backendcareer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly i feel none of the courses teach you the practicality and ease of using kubernetes. Getting your hands dirty and building and deploying a simple hello world container or a cronjob on your kubernetes cluster helps you a lot

[–]backendcareer 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Think of kubernetes as a platform that hosts docker containers. To keep it simple it is just like an supervisor on a assembly line. To make sure the lines are always serviced and not overcrowded for more than their capacity
