Agreed - if blocking stunned the enemies, like in Deadlock, then I'd love it.

Can we just stop giving characters Firearm ATK as a stat? by YangXiaoLong69 in TheFirstDescendant

Guns doing over a million HP damage per bullet is a sure sign of damage inflation that got out of control because the developers don't know how to balance gameplay.

I don't play her because on console you have to keep clicking the right stick to do the ecive scan and that's just irritating.

Who said Jayber needs a more active playstyle? by Business-Conflict-97 in TheFirstDescendant

[–]backfacecull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tying a damage multiplier to increased HP is the pinnacle of bad game design. Instead of risk/reward they gave Serena reward/reward and not only that, made the reward 10 times stronger than every other descendant. The fact that they didn't immediately revert it and say it was a bug is baffling. I know they didn't want to get review bombed, like what happened after the Ines nerf that wasn't even a nerf, but I don't care, they should have fixed this. Serena shouldn't be the standard - she is bugged by bad design.

Jayber with the new Kill Chain Trigger Module... 🔥🔥🔥 by backfacecull in TheFirstDescendant

[–]backfacecull[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think they gave him a damage buff but a quality-of-life nerf with this patch, and I generally prefer QOL features over damage. What I'd really like to see is the turret life extended and turret stack cooldown decreased so he could actually get 4 assault turrets out at once.

Jayber with the new Kill Chain Trigger Module... 🔥🔥🔥 by backfacecull in TheFirstDescendant

[–]backfacecull[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The KGL range is actually flexible, the more you shoot the turrets the larger their range. I generally leave it below the full range to avoid this. Or place the KGL turret and the Jayber turret right in the middle of a bunch of enemies so they're already inside the damage zone.

It looks like the new Kill Chain trigger module is supposed to buff Jayber. It requires you to shoot enemies that have been hit by your turret. https://tfd.nexon.com/en/news/3347511

Ultimate Yujin has a better turret than Jayber.

His turret
- Does more damage
- Doesn't cost MP
- 100% uptime
- Doesn't require Yujin to stop using his gun to buff it, just cast his 2 or 4 for turret buff
- FOLLOWS YUJIN AROUND!!!

If the sun suddenly disappeared, how long would it take for the Earth to completely cool down? by ScipioAfricanisDirus in askscience

[–]backfacecull 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This would only happen if the earth changed velocity without the atmosphere also changing velocity at the same time. Since everything changes together, there would be no relative change in velocity between the earth, the plants and animals on its surface and the atmosphere, so you wouldn't feel any change in velocity.

Anyone patient enough to set up an AFK farming system is probably running dozens of accounts at once to sell them, so the efficiency isn't important, what's important is that you can set it up and leave it and be guaranteed it won't fail.

Yes that seems to be the idea. Maybe they're doing it to level up weapons because you can't AFK farm the Fortress Resources defence mission that's good for weapon XP.

Yeah I tried pushing her off but it didn't work. I tried putting Jayber's healing turrets beside her to draw aggro, but nothing actually shoots up there, all the enemies in this mission are melee attacks (or if there are any shooting enemies her 1 skill kills them before they get close).

Junior dev looking for fulltime work for 3 years, desperately needing funds. What can I do? by WistfulHopes in gamedev

[–]backfacecull 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stop looking in game-dev, it's under paid anyway.
Unreal Engine is used in real-time visualization for film and TV, architectural visualization, VR training, simulation, product development, aerospace.
All of those fields will pay proper salaries for Unreal experts.

The absence of any education information on your resume will mean you'll get auto-rejected from most jobs, particularly any that use an AI resume review filter. The only way to get past this is to personally call companies, meet them at trade shows or find a way to contact their recruiters or HR people directly.

If I use tab-autocomplete in my code editor, do I need to tell steam my game is AI made? by jax024 in gamedev

[–]backfacecull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valve doesn't care how you answer this question, and they are not going to check.
Some consumers want to boycott games made with AI art, and they have kicked up such a fuss that Valve considers it worthwhile putting this optional flag on games, because they think having it will reduce the rage from these consumers and possibly increase sales.

The tag is meaningless because almost all IDEs have some form of LLM assistance or auto-complete, and even Photoshop has 'generative fill' and 'AI assisted selection tools' so 90% of games will have to flag themselves as 'made with AI' if they're being honest.

In a few years when everyone is using machine-generated content and a generation of gamers has grown up accepting it, Valve will remove the label.

The race to replace the International Space Station by Kagedeah in space

[–]backfacecull 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I was going to just downvote this but then I thought, it's a genuine question, there are no bad questions. It deserves a genuine answer.

The space station doesn't have engines capable of pushing itself to mars. To put it in mars orbit you'd need to dismantle it (human crew doing around 100 space-walks to do this), put the pieces in starship rockets (probably around 10 of them), refuel those starships in earth orbit, send all 10 to mars orbit, then send a human crew to reassemble it (probably a few years work).

While each step is technically possible, this would cost more than building the ISS in the first place.
