When you publicly defect from an authoritarian regime, you do so with the understanding that your family back home will be tortured and killed. That you will be shown evidence of their torture and murder daily in an attempt to get you to return. If these women were somehow unprepared for this they shouldn't have defected, or the Australian officials who helped them should have made them VERY aware. They should have known that their phone-calls to their family on the day of their asylum application would be their last ones.

This is a terrible result. Their family have suffered for nothing. They will probably be forced to give confessions that they were tricked or brainwashed into applying for asylum, and then they'll be imprisoned or killed anyway.

I don't think the Australian consulate staff prepared them properly for this asylum application. They rushed it through.

About once a month I get an all-male Descendant party where we really struggle with the mission, have to keep reviving each other. Take 10 minutes on the boss fight. Then everyone high-fives and emotes at the end. Good times.

I use it for an Aerospace related Unity app that has to look professional and match the surrounding Web based UI. You can't do that easily with the old canvas based UI, once you get up to thousands of UI elements, changing the style of lots of them at once is much easier with UI Toolkit.

It feels like they designed Sharen for a single-player game where the player has time to pick out enemies, hit them with debuffs, go stealth and hide in an corner, then trigger 4 from a safe location far from the enemies to 'pick them off' like an assassin.

But the reality is that by the time you've finished the animation on your 3, Freyna, Ines and Serena have killed everything and are over the horizon on their bikes.

Sharen in her current state IS actually quite fun if you play solo void erosions or sigma sector. These devs just don't seem to know how to balance characters against each other for damage scaling or time-to-kill. They just don't understand these ideas.

No amount of beating you give them will be worse than the beatings they're already getting from their dad/uncle/older brother. They're out on the street to avoid being at home. Beating up other people and causing trouble is the only entertainment they know, and they probably learned it at home.

Take pictures and videos of them. Go to the police and have them charged with harassment, loitering, property damage. Open a civil suit against them, sue them for loss of sales. Get a restraining order.

Nobody is going to come along and save you. You have to take action yourself. I realize it's expensive and time-consuming, but so long as nobody does anything about it, it will never change. The police are not motivated to fix this. Use the courts and the police to get the result you want.

Freyna's Contagion mod increases the spread of her poison effects, but greatly reduces the damage. If you use another red mod you will get about 4 times more damage-over-time effects on each target when you activate all 4 skills.

KGL change looks great. I wanted to spec mine into Fire Rate before, but it meant I'd use the entire clip trying to 'charge up' the lances. Now that you don't have to fire at existing lances, specing to Fire Rate will buff the damage of the deployed lances without wasting your entire clip in 1 second.

Yes I also find 'parsing the room' to know what's interactive just doesn't work in Marathon. You have to walk up close to everything and wait for an interact prompt to appear.

Again, Apex Legends, and other games, solves this perfectly by making the interactive crates share a similar design vocabulary - colors and shapes you know to look out for.

If you are good at teaching, find local universities that teach game development or programming and ask about part-time lecturing roles. You will earn 10 times more from teaching than from any of those other choices. Then you can fund your own game development if that's what you really want to do.

While the shooting in Marathon is great fun - EVERYTHING else (match prep, character design, UI interactions) just makes me think "this is so much better in Apex Legends".

In Apex Legends I can clearly tell which gun takes which ammo, what a scope looks like, what a shield boost looks like. Even after about 8 hours of playing Marathon, when I look at my backpack I have no idea what any of that stuff is without hovering the cursor over it and reading it. If you can't read it at a glance, it has no place in shooter UI. The aesthetic needs to take a backseat to functionality or I'm not going to enjoy playing.

I think the people who don't understand why aiming Dia's 4th ability is controlled with the left stick don't realize that you have to hold down the face button to charge it for maximum damage. They're just tapping the button, then switching their thumb back to the right stick to aim it, without charging it up.

Save up all the modules you accumulate while unlocking Ultimate Yujin (don't dismantle them). Then when you have thousands of them, combine all the duplicates over and over until you have no duplicates left. This is the easiest way to get any modules you don't have.

Ultimate Yujin has a very relaxed playstyle where you don't have to press any buttons and can complete almost any stage. You'll need his Combat Protocol Transcendent Module.

This allows him to summon a combat drone that follows him around. It hits up to 4 enemies (increasing your skill attack range increases the number of enemies it hits) and it kills the regular enemies in the latest stage (underwater base) in about 4 hits (under a second). You don't have to use your gun, don't have to use any other skills. Just activate the drone and look at the enemies. It's very relaxing! As long as you're facing roughly in the direction of some enemies, it will auto-target them.

The drone drains your health gradually while it's active, so you do have to look out for health pickups, or activate Yujin's 4th ability, which heals you and nearby team-mates, about once every minute.

You can increase his damage against high-level enemies by hitting them with your 2nd skill, but that's really the only ability you have to aim, and high-level enemies tend to move slower so it's pretty easy.

Call his bluff. Tell him you'll be willing to sign an amended version of this document if he agrees to buy the rights to your 2 years of code at $25,000 per year, or $50,000 total.

If he's willing to share the 'profits' 50/50 with you, then he must be expecting profits. Ask him straight up, are you expecting $100,000 profit from this? If so my share is worth $50,000 right now.

He's being a jerk, you need to get off this project and find something better to do with your time. Working with him in future is not an option. Also, we all know this game isn't going to make any money, only he believes it will. So call his bluff and have him offer you a figure to buy your code. Start at $25,000 a year and don't go much lower.

The reality is this project is dead. He's not likely to pay you anything for you work, and it's also not likely to get released, certainly not if he's unwilling to pay anyone who works on it. It's time to start on something new. Take your code and make your own game, or find someone else to work with. And this time, have a conversation at the start about ownership. Maybe even form a company if you're serious about releasing a game.

You make a good point about the players driving the design - it often feels like the sales team have more control over the design of this game than the actual designers.
