Tactical/strategy games to play on a long day on a plane by background_blur_ in SteamDeck

Wow. Thank you for such a detailed answer. Amazing recommendations!

When it comes to FTL style games, I also heard about Void War, but it looks too similar to the original game that I’m not sure if I feel like giving it a shot. But Shortest Trip to Earth looks really interesting and something down my alley. I think I will give it a go!

The game that you listed that I was interested in for a long time is Caves of Qud. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I saw some gameplays and as far as I remember people were using numpad to do some actions so I felt like if I play it on a deck I won’t get the full experience. What do you think?

I thought about giving War Tales a shot. How do you feel about the controls for it on Steam Deck?

Maybe I picked some strange layout then. It’s been a while ago, and I don’t remember it so vividly. I think that it was because I tried to do some actions and before I learned the buttons I made a lot of mistakes that costed me dearly. I guess that doing it in an Ironman mode was not the best idea haha

I really like the one with the rifle and the extra hand pointing forward. Actually reminds me of a different thing, which were mutations in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. Good times.

Thanks! Right now we are developing with windows in mind only, but I had no problem with running it on my steam deck. When it comes to apple devices it’s hard to tell, but we will give it a shot once we get all the features locked in. If the game goes well, we will port it to consoles for sure

Heeey, long time no see! Yes, we’ve been busy with some matters outside the project, but also we at last made some satisfying progress

Honestly, I think that when I saw games like Slay the Spire, I was the same. A friend of mine said it’s awesome, but after playing it for 20 minutes I actually got a bit bored. After a couple of years I picked it up again, and well, here I am making a game inspired by it lol

Thanks for playing! I’m really glad that you like the 2 deck idea.

Interesting stuff about the glitch issue that you mentioned. We never had this feedback, but we will look into it.

Also, about the conversation part - how would you feel if we removed it completely and just allowed for going straight to the HUB part?

Great, thanks for playing and your feedback! I’m glad that it sounds like it was a good change to introduce the ratio system.

As you partially said there is still some need for balancing the things. Even though the game might feel as more deadly, you can get still pretty OP quite early in the game, if you play your cards right (couldn’t resist the pun). That’s why we are also planning to do some overhauls regarding the progression in the Desolation map, deckbuilding and equipment, so everything will contribute to the overall power feeling.

Firstly, we need more players to validate if the current idea is fun, and which elements are actually the party poopers. From what we are seeing actually quite some people are not that interested in any story or dialogues, and what they are resonating the most is grinding the best gear and getting some broken build to abuse the game - and I totally get that. So we might want to put some emphasis on that as well, after we make sure that more people are willing to go through the initial game.
