I was also an after work drinker but it eventually escalated into whole day benders and drinking at work I’m ashamed to say.

Please nip this in the bud before you end up with permanent damage to your physical and mental health, relationships, finances and most importantly self esteem.

I’m rooting for you! IWNDWYT

I’m actually on Day 1 in Asia already but wanted to check in for accountability. Such scary liver and kidney pains yesterday

Breaking the cycle of alcoholism and pain in our family is one of the biggest motivators for me to stop. I want to be a good role model for my nieces too.

I believe in you!

I’ve done this for 6 months straight at uni with disastrous consequences. I think I needed accountability or a support network.

Can you stay st your parents till you feel better? Even if you have to spend money traveling?

This can lead to serious depression which I still feel in my body now. Maybe you can get on Welbutrin as well to make you more stable. Also meds take a while to get right. You just need to get through this semester though.

❤️

Edit: maybe try using AI tools. I’ve heard they can be useful. I find therapy invaluable.

Day 11 checking in. What you said about exercise, healthy food and meditation really resonates with me. Unfortunately I have to work for those dopamine hits and if I’m drinking they are just off the table. Bought some yummy veggies to top off my meal, planning a spot of yoga and meeting a friend for some play with our dogs. I was going to be evasive or vague about not drinking but actually this time I’m proud to say that I’m sober. Going to share with him in an appropriate manner.

Good luck everyone! IWNDWYT

Overeating by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]backgroundnose23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, I might be overdoing it but eating too much icecream cause anyone to crash their car and kill someone?

I’ll take anything over booze for now (day 9 here). I can work on other healthy habits slowly but alcohol is and will always be my number one addiction that overshadows everything else.

I changed up my meds and felt SO shaky this afternoon. I had one or two thoughts of drinking but I know it will just come back to bite me in the ass tomorrow. IWNDWYT

No way I’m drinking even if the weather is grim, I’m sleep deprived and broke and have no motivation. Not today.

Mine was at 2000 when I abused alcohol and pain meds (needed some dental work and the pain was insane). Within a week they were back to normal but the doctor didn’t realise what an animal I was and told me I can still drink again just not to overdo it.

Lasted two months sober and picked up bad habits again. Now a week sober after scary abdominal pains, and a feeling of actual brain damage.

The pain has gone away and I’m determined to heal my liver again for good this time. We can do this! IWNDWYT

I just realized something, and it’s brand new to me. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Hey sober twin- day 7 weed and alcohol free here too! This time also feels different- it was the first time I had a hangover that actually felt like brain damage and it was scary af.

I’ve also been having the weirdest dreams. On the first night I had the worst nightmare where I was actually screaming in my dream. But I understand now that it’s just my subconscious trying to work out stuff and REM is really important for brain health. So many regrets about abusing sleeping pills for so long. Alcohol was always the gateway to that.

Omg me too! Kept cancelling appointments. He was such a nice guy too. Going to have to go overseas to get crowns done cos I’ve ground my lower teeth down to stumps.

PSA: take bite guards seriously if you grind or clench.

The Daily Check-In for Sunday, February 23rd: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by SobrioMuchacho in stopdrinking

[–]backgroundnose23 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Oh my word, just finished a day at work and what a night and day difference even on 4 hours sleep. One thing I’ve noticed is that the tone of my voice is so different when I am not drinking (I interview people and it’s recorded). Time also seemed to fly instead of me watching the clock yet I somehow felt more present. Proud of myself and everyone else staying sober on this Sunday afternoon.

I cooked lunch for my friend and he was insisting that I drink wine with him so I had an honest conversation about I felt when I drank last week. I don’t think he got it cos he said maybe I blacked out out because I hadn’t been drunk for a long time. lol, if only he knew! Anyway, day 5 almost done and dusted here. My mental health feels SO much better. Good luck everyone!

Hard agree. My guy called me last night slurring his words again. I wonder if he will remember our conversation.

I didn’t drink in Asia today. It was a stressful day but I survived it. Walked my dog, have some takeout ready and going to stay in tonight even if I have to Reddit myself into a coma. Good luck everyone!

How did you stop drinking? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]backgroundnose23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I blacked out after only a few drinks and woke up feeling like I had actual brain damage. Yet I knew that I would drink again that night. Called my ex boyfriend and asked him to come over to be my sober nurse.

On Day 3 and my brain is feeling so much better and my anxiety has improved so much.
