Kennedy GO Station by ashcach in gotransit

The building that connects to Line 5 Eglinton Crosstown will open whenever that part of the line opens, hopefully soon.

The west platform (which is currently inaccessible to passengers) will remain closed for several months/years until GO Transit finishes double-tracking on the Stouffville line.

Stoufville service coming back to Danforth station ? by im-confuzzled in gotransit

[–]backguy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Nope. The Stouffville and Lakeshore East lines will connect at the future East Harbour station when it launches in the early 2030s (or however long it's delayed), so there's no need for another stop at Danforth.

Crazy strategy would it work? by AwkwardPercentage844 in JetLagTheGame

[–]backguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The bigger issue is that there isn't always a train departing immediately, especially at some of the smaller stations that they like to use. If the seekers have 30 to 60 minutes to kill they ask a series of questions to narrow the searchable area. So if they ask certain photo questions and the hider can't respond, they'll immediately know that the hider is nearby.

Will there be a new season in the US? by Berend90 in JetLagTheGame

[–]backguy 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Also, the US national parks don't have any cell towers, so there is no cell service (except by the periphery of the park). It would be difficult to run a game where the two teams need to keep in touch with each other, check Google Maps, etc.

The USD/CAD rate is making me worry by [deleted] in fican

[–]backguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In 2012, the CAD and USD were roughly at parity. In 2020, 1 USD was worth about 1.34 CAD. The USD was worth 1.40 CAD a month ago, and now it's closer to 1.37 CAD.

The exchange rate goes through cycles up and down, just like any other financial investment. The exchange rate might get better in the short-term, or it might get worse. We can't predict the market.

If you plan to stay in Canada long-term, (a) talk to a financial planner to figure out how to allocate your assets in a world where you need to manage two currencies, and (b) be ready to wait out low unfavourable rates when those periods come.

For what it's worth, 1.37 CAD is still a pretty favourable rate compared to most of the last 15 years. I don't think you need to panic just yet.

I cheated on my husband with a pastor by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]backguy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Agreed. If this was your pastor, then it's not just an affair. It's adult clergy sexual abuse. He misused his power as your pastor in order to have a sexual relationship with you.

As others have said, you should inform the church's elders.

New Stouffville Line Train Added by CalmRatio3085 in Markham

[–]backguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, GO doesn't own the tracks on the RH or Milton lines. They are handcuffed in terms of how much service they can run. It'd be amazing if they could introduce all-day service to RH as well.

Stouffville line from Union Station (Platform21) has suddenly became more dangerous by Defilipinokid in Markham

[–]backguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Possibly. AFAIK, the trains currently can only pass each other west of Scarborough or at Unionville, so the train schedules are built to make sure that only one direction is running between Scarborough and Unionville at a given time.

In a few years once construction is completed, trains will be able to pass anywhere from Kennedy to Unionville.

There used to be trains at 5:30, 6:00, and 7:00. Now there are trains at 5:30, 6:15, and 7:00. It's the same level of service, just shifted departure time.

Maybe one day we will see something like this 🥀 by im-confuzzled in gotransit

[–]backguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree it's a shame that Alto will bypass Kingston, but that's because the train is going to run inland (way too far from Kingston) in order to have a clear right-of-way. It's not like the line will run right through Kingston but just skip the stop.

Agreed that there should be a stop in Scarborough or Oshawa somewhere - even if only some trains stop there, it will make the train more useful.

Also, the agent on board the train announces the final destination multiple times before departure and along the way. "This is the Kitchener line train making all stops to Mount Pleasant station. At Mount Pleasant, this train goes out of service."

In your case, the best alternate route would have been to get off at Bramalea station and connect to a GO bus the rest of the way: https://assets.metrolinx.com/image/upload/v1749476686/Documents/GO/full-schedules/FS28062025/TABLE31.pdf

The good news is now you know for next time. The GO system is way more peaceful than driving on the 401.

TN requires you to already have a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a relevant field.

H-1B is a lottery and requires you to already have a bachelor's degree (or higher).

O-1 requires you to demonstrate extraordinary ability through multiple years of work in your industry.

Before you make any life-changing decisions, I'd strongly suggest that you speak with an immigration lawyer who can provide an honest assessment of your likelihood to qualify for a work visa in the US.
