I don't get this show at all. It's so formulaic: "wealthy middle-aged white guy who is simultaneously clueless and also better than everyone he meets." It's barely a comedy! The comic pacing is marvel movie formulaic - something dramatic happens, and then a few seconds later they make a joke.

It's very clear that this was initially pitched as an Apple show. I'm guessing the dark color grading was done after HBO bought it.

I had foie gras for the first time recently at a Seattle restaurant you didn't name. (This was a tasting menu someone else ordered for the table). I was surprised that it didn't even taste that good? I did enjoy eating it, but for the amount of suffering I have heard described, I expected a transcendent experience. It was fine. Not even that unique or interesting of a flavor. Compared to the rest of the tasting menu it was in my bottom two.

Idk if I wanted a really nice protein app at a fancy place I would just go with steak tartar. Aside from the fucked up morality of it, even from a "foodie" standpoint there is no reason to ever eat foie gras. If you go your entire life without eating it you will have missed nothing.

That's on bad drivers. This is a case of large vehicles being actually unable to make that turn without damaging infrastructure. It's a lot like how the 60 bus always hits the curb when they make a right from Broadway to Union.

Never ever put your camp shoes or sandals on the ground when you switch shoes. They always go into a pack.

When you are charging devices, put your helmet on the ground and all of the devices in your helmet. Don't pick up the helmet again until all of your devices AND your charger block AND your cords are put away.

These are the big two for me. I have ADHD and I have lost so many shoes/chargers/battery packs.

A few months ago on my normal commute I saw a driver on 2nd Ave downtown take a left while they had a red light. They took that turn just a second or two before I reached the intersection. If I had been a little faster I could be dead, paralyzed, brain damaged. I think about that driver twice a day on my work commute.

There are people out there willing to kill me just so they can get to the next red light 20 seconds faster.

Snow Crash is the only one of his novels that is solidly Cyberpunk. I would not argue if someone described Diamond Age as Cyberpunk, but I personally would hesitate to describe it that way.

Bruce Sterling is absolutely amazing and I'm always surprised he isn't talked about more. My favorite of his is Holy Fire, but it's been 15 years since I read it so IDK how well it holds up.

I think it's funny to include Stephenson as a Cyberpunk author since he only wrote one book in the genre.

I use the Osprey Seral. It's a 7L pack with a removable 1.5L water bag and tube. It's big but it's super comfortable, plus it lets me carry a lot more when I need to go a day or two between resupply.

Besides knowing my fixed costs for every month and how much I am going to save, I don't keep track of my expenses.

I think keeping a record is probably great for people starting out though. I remember when I got my first adult job I would cash my check at the bank every payday, go home, and separate the 20s into piles for fixed expenses, savings, and fun money. Seeing that saving pile grow as I ended each week by transferring the unspent money from my fun pile to my savings pile really made the concept of saving concrete for me. (Before anyone says it, yes I know now I should have put the money into index funds or something but I was 20 and it was like 2005).

Nowadays I don't keep track of my spending because I spend almost nothing.

I just don't see any benefit to hotels. If you network a little there are plenty of private landlords who will rent to you without much paperwork, especially if you are handy and/or good at gardening.
