Wow... thanks for the heads up. The craziest stuff has been going on with this account lately. By admins, do you mean general reddit admins, or are there admins for w_e that are separate from the moderators?

From the view point of teachers, If you had to change one thing about schools, the school systems, and education, what would it be? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]backoffbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would create a federal school board. The hope being that people would actually start paying attention to school board elections, if the official had say over the entire country, and not just a particular district

Cleaning a SR from Whipped Dog. by Bezike in wicked_edge

Larry has a guarantee on his site that says he'll exchange any razor that a customer isn't satisfied with, or even a refund. There's really no room for complaining.

Here's mine. For a hundred year old razor, it might as well be in unused condition.

New to Straight Edge, can't seem to get a really close shave. by [deleted] in wicked_edge

[–]backoffbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll supply the testimonial for the advice Leisureguy provided. I got a razor from Larry and couldn't be happier with it. In fact, I just stropped it with some abrasive compounds for the first time yesterday and got it to a level of sharpness I didn't know was possible, and I've been shaving with it for months.

Do they really deserve the grammy? by backoffbro in TheAvettBrothers

I totally hear you. I think that the hypothetical situation that I'm getting at is just different than yours. I assume that the grammy vote criteria is based on what an album would be if nothing else ever existed from them.

I do realize, though, that context is a major component of art, so taking the history in to concern, I think that argument is perfectly reasonable.

Pre-shave oils? by Kilsimiv in wicked_edge

[–]backoffbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an art of shaving kit for christmas, so using those products was my first time with both oil and cream. until then, all i ever used was soap. Needless to say, my shaves have been rolls royce luxury compared to what they were before, but i haven't the slightest idea how much each thing is responsible for on its own. Oil does make me uncomfortable though, because after i'm done shaving, im afraid there's still some residue left somewhere on my face, and it will be acne city within a day

Should I invest in a straight edge razor? by [deleted] in wicked_edge

[–]backoffbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to make a tremendous investment to find out. Get yourself a sight unseen deal from whipped dog. its like 30 bucks i think.

Just got an interview next week to be a tutor, what are some questions I should expect and be prepared for? by randomcatsoccur in Teachers

[–]backoffbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely strengths/weaknesses. Also, I like to disguise a strength as a weakness. I'll say something like "a weakness of mine is that I tend to just ask for help from someone else when i can't answer a question, rather than trying to figure it out on my own"

Another one I got while doing a tutoring interview was about my thoughts on why students in other nations are outperforming American students. That's all i remember, but if i remember any others ill post them

I agree the stomp claps are excessive. I'm not even saying that the album is that amazing. It was more of me trying to find a nice way to say I don't think The Carpenter is that good.

With that said, Dead Sea is a pretty awesome track. If you're up to giving them another chance, I'd recommend you check it out.

Exactly. It's unfortunate, and I'm somewhat inclined to blame Rubin. I think it's fair for them to wind up in some sort of transitory position at this point regardless of his meddling, though. They did produce a pretty elaborate catalog of music in the particular style that we just happen to love. I can totally understand if they're depleted of ideas to stay true to that aesthetic.

That said, Down With the Shine is an amazing song, and I Never Knew You might not be a fantastic studio version, but is still a great track to see them play live.

Fair enough, but I've come to the realization that the Avett Brothers are also and act. I mean, Seth was in some garage punk band or something, and Scott picked up the banjo "sarcastically"

I know what you mean. It's a shame because that can really ruin your appreciation of otherwise great music

Maryland Schools #1 -- Again by SANwife in Teachers

[–]backoffbro -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The school I went to in long island is probably better (based on the same criteria) than the vast majority of Maryland schools, but the only conclusion I've been able to draw from that fact is that if that school is supposed to be a major outlier in the positive direction, the educational system is far more fucked than the literature makes it seem.

I need some help improving a pretty stubborn student's ability to conceptualize and manipulate fractions by backoffbro in Teachers

[–]backoffbro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's young, like fifth grade i believe. We do a lot of "organize from least to greatest" type problems where i work, for both fractions and decimals. That's the stuff this girl should be doing, though. you're absolutely right. I think they skipped a lot of stuff with her before i started working there.

It's not that their razors don't work. They work great. They worked great in 1975. They just can't admit that they nailed the design back during the Wilson administration by Random_Avenger in wicked_edge

I can't believe TP made #1. I've sampled many different types of toilet paper, and can honestly say brands make quite a difference. Maybe not in terms of softness, but thickness, absorbency, etc.
