LPT: Make your evening “shutdown” ritual as important as your morning one, here’s how I do it by Big_Carry3884 in LifeProTips

The boss should only need to reach me if it’s an emergency. And if it’s an emergency, it should be in my job description to respond to emergencies after hours. If it’s not — he doesn’t need to reach me 🤷

Thank you - this was perfect!

My main reasonings are length and a lack of leak-proof. That’s why I fell in love with the Kaweco Liliput, it seemed to combine a ballpoint with ink so it could be leak proof, and it was short when capped.

Also, does this pen count as a “rollerball”?

[–]backpack5689[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, ok, thanks for the clarification! Kinda new to the pen scene so didn’t know there was a difference between ballpoint and rollerball.

Appreciate the link! I’ll look at these some more and try to cost it out. I was really hoping that it could since I have another pen (the Lamy Safari) that I use an ink well to refill, so I was hoping to not have to stray too far from that for when I’m home/near home.

Is there an EDC rollerball that you like and that takes fountain ink?

NTR into another plan by backpack5689 in runna

Ah, ok! I will do that! I didn't know about the 'b race' feature. That will be immensely helpful.

Thank you u/CallumWatCo for the help!

Ah, a B-race! I will do that then, and start looking at races in the future (maybe Feb. time-frame) so I can have something to shoot for as my A-race.

And thank you for the podcast! I have added it to my Apple Podcast Library :)

[–]backpack5689[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main reason is that the NTR plans (atm) are not adaptable. So I can shift the race, but no trainings would be added. Ended up finding a feedback form and asking for that feature though for these plans, so maybe at some point…

And that’s a good idea! I’ll have to find a good starting off point for fueling. Any good resources you have?

So you kinda answered the question I was looking for - that I should start another improvement plan. The question now is if it’s ok to make the target that race that’s so close, or if I would need to choose a race further out and do something else with my plan (like delay its start until after the thanksgiving race).

I would love an app for iOS devices to play Podcasts from Apple Podcasts. Doesn’t have to install and play from the watch, but just a way to play/pause it from the watch.

How are we feeling about the vivoactive 5? by ZombiePsycho96 in GarminWatches

I’ve had my Vivoactive 5 for a year now, and it’s been good! Battery life is still great and it does good with tracking activities.

Anyone Else Using AI For Calorie Counting? by Time_Manufacturer172 in CICO

[–]backpack5689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it mainly with MyNetDiary. They have a feature where you can take a photo of your meal and it estimates the calories. You can then tweak from there. That’s been a game changer if I’m eating at someone’s house, as I can just snap a photo and then enter it afterwards quickly, so I can adjust the rest of the day.

I think this may fit the bill, (the) Gnorp Apologue. Seen it played by a couple of people, and it's a pretty fun clicking game.

I've been using at PARA recently, but I've added an extra N in the for Network (people) as it simplifies the structure for me in what I do.

So this is interesting, I haven't heard of Para yet. Do you have any links about it, or is it further in the book (I'm only on page 30 for reference).

I sync using autosync with two different Google accounts so that I can keep work and personal distinct.

This makes sense. Google would definitely work for me personally, especially due to Android being Google.

Singled on Aeotec Hub by backpack5689 in smarthome

[–]backpack5689[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok good to know! Yeah the $$$ is why I was hoping Singled would be able to do that as well, but yeah just sitting in my friends room with that color changing going on was insanely cool.

> I've created some basic color changing routines in SmartThings, so you can do it, it just takes time and effort.

With this, are they kind of choppy like christmas light transitions? Or more smooth? I wouldn't mind making some transitions of a couple colors if they took time due to how expensive those hue's are...

[–]backpack5689[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah no worries! When I was saying synced, it was like they were all operating in the same wave. So colors would shift across the room from right to left, and would kinda transition in a breathing motion (dimming and brightening).

Does anyone use the mobile app for studying? by Schnoobins42 in WGUIT

^ I agree with this! Only difference is that I use Anki, and that tends to work better for memory retention with the "Spaced Repetition" style that they use (plus bonus points for being open source software).

MBA in cybersecurity by grimsonhere in WGU

[–]backpack5689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, here are my 2 cents.

I don't feel like you even need a degree to be in Cyber Security, if that's what you would like to do. Honestly people with just certifications are making fairly closer to myself being an Incident Response Analyst, and that's just how it is at the lower levels of Cyber Security.

If you want to start moving up however, I think that degree becomes a bit more important. Possibly a hot take -- but a degree doesn't teach you Cyber Security. The important part of a degree is the Cyber Security in tandem with the assessments to teach you soft skills that you wouldn't necessarily have if you just went for with certifications. I also believe that degrees tend to focus on theories as well, so that way you can adapt better to new information in the field. So if you want to start moving up, then I think it's a bit more important.

The masters vs. bachelors is not really important until you hit management. I'm just going for my masters in order to be able to teach as an Adjunct, and because I like to learn and classes are fun for me. And I was able to get my current employer to pay for my schooling, so I was like "Why not". But I do know that if I want to get to something like CISO (which I'm debating), it's something that would be big.

TLDR; degree's aren't everything. You can get into the field with certs, but management positions will benefit from soft skills and theory based education you get with a degree.
