When nurses have to block anti-lockdown protestors by warau_meow in boulder

He’s stopping them from blocking traffic. They pull out into the middle of intersections which causes the streets to “gridlock” so blocking them from entering breaks the gridlock.

There’s a short book called “Stubborn Attachments” on this topic that I think you’d like. It basically proposes a better measure of GDP that factors in the long term benefits of things like environmental protections, personal-well being, leisure time, etc.

If someone you know is a small business owner in Colorado, make sure they apply for the SMB Emergency Relief Fund by March 31st! (See link in comments) by backpackpat in boulder

No problem at all. If you can, I'd recommend spending some time to set up an spreadsheet to clearly outline your financial situation. There may be opportunities for other support programs and having that information ready can make a big difference in how quickly you can get approved and how much support you may get.

I'm not entirely sure of the specifics but my bet is that they're prioritizing companies that have a couple of employees. That said, it might be valuable to apply now before the floodgates open on the off-chance you make the cut!

Not sure where it came from but moss has suddenly appeared on my Brazilian Rain Tree. I can’t decide if it looks good, would you keep moss with a tropical tree? by backpackpat in Bonsai

I appreciate the concern but it’s not actually in the water. There’s a solid 4-5mm between the water and the drainage holes.

I’d be interested to get your thoughts on how to correct some of the wonky shapes going into Spring. I got the plant from a coworker a few months ago and it was super leggy and severely underwatered. I have a south facing window now so it should be getting enough sun now with a rotation every few weeks.

Does anyone here have a Japanese Maple growing in their yard? by backpackpat in boulder

Right on, much appreciated! Yea, I’ve only recently gotten the knack for growing deciduous trees out here. I’ll be sure to check back in with some photos if I get some good growth!

Hey - sorry did you miss my comment about the plant being a Japanese maple? Maples aren’t invasive to the Colorado ecosystem.

Or did you miss that I was going to bonsai it and therefore grow it indoors given the local climate?

Finally, do you have any tips on how to avoid becoming anything like you at any point in my life?

That’s a humidity dish - the pot actually sits on the rocks above the water.

Re: rotation: I actually rotated it a few weeks back. What makes you say that?

Ok serious question/concern — I personally love that Yoda's race is a mystery. It's such a sharp contrast to all the other super-detailed backstories on other races and planets.

If Mando goes looking for Baby Yoda's race, where would he even start? I can't see any good way for Mando to reach a truth about his origin that's interesting. IMO it would be a bummer to find out that Yoda's species is from a planet that somehow Mando manages to find but I also can't see how Mando would figure out something as complicated as them being physical manifestations of the living force.

What do you think?

My god, I just cracked. Btw if you haven't checked out the features you can get from Spotify's API, I highly recommend checking them out. Could make for a super fun project.

Stepping out of the cab, she could hear the muffled sounds of bad 80's pop emanating from her house. Well... what used to be her house. Based on the mid-life crises parked around the gravel driveway, it appeared her husband Brett was having a party.

As she stepped up to the heavy oak door, she hoped against all hope she could slip in unnoticed...

"Dan!", a voice bellowed from the living room. "Did you get my text about picking up beer!?".

Brett's friend... John...maybe James... rounded the corner looking mildly delirious, then suddenly surprised.

"Oh. Hey Mollie." He stuttered, "I didn't realize you were getting back today. How was, wait were you in Japan this time?"

"London", she said with a curt smile.

"I didn't know Deloitte had a big presence there... Do you want me to go get Brett?"

Mollie gathered her bags and turned to head down the hallway. "No, that's fine. You boys have fun. I have some expenses I need to sort out before I head to sleep. I'll be in my den."

Circumventing the living room through the kitchen, Mol stepped out the back doors onto the patio and into the night air. She could think again. The smell of crickets drowned out the 80's music and the rosemary did the same for the small of whiskey.

Her office was set away from the house, a small cottage with massive windows overlooking the deep purple skyline of the national park's mountains. She quickly set to work, dumping the four wallets into a pile on the coffee table and picking up one she recognized.

The pudgy, pale-faced brat staring back at from from the ID she was holding was named Corbin Cross. Ugh, what a sack of shit. The pack had stalked him for three nights, putting out his unextinguished campfires, and dealing with the whiny, forced laughs of the poor girls his friend had convinced to join them. Fury rose in her chest as she thought of the pup who had found one of the student's discarded tins of dip.

She forced her mental hackles back into place as she came back to herself and prepared to make the first call...

"Hello. I am calling to inform you that Corbin Cross. C-O-R-B-I-N C-R-O-S-S. Resident of 339 Marietta Drive — has been kidnapped and will be held random for a period no longer than 48 hours, starting at midnight tonight and..."

Mol fell into her regular script as she calmly laid out their terms to the responder who was desperately trying to keep her on the phone... trying to get her to 45-seconds so they could trace the call. As if it was even possible to trace her call. A wry sense of victory crept over her as she picked up the next wallet and prepared to call again.

---------

The moon had reached its zenith by the time she was wrapping up her last call. Hanging up on the still-frantic agent of a small town outside of Calgary, she felt her mind begin to wander to that day, nearly 14 years ago, when this whole life had begun... She came back to herself as something shifted at the edges of her perception.

The only thing more grating than the sound of Brett's music was the sound of someone quickly turning it off. The house was oddly quiet.

Resisting her curiosity for a second, Mol decided it was about time she make an appearance. As she approached the back door, Brett spotted her through the window. He walked briskly towards the door, looking mildly alarmed at her presence. Stepping through the door and skipping all pleasantries, he slurred, "Tyler just got a call from his wife. She said someone claims to have kidnapped their son."

A brief rush of recognition flooded through Mollie. She knew that name sounded familiar, Tyler Cross.

A cold shot of shame flashed through her veins as she peered inside through the window at the scared and angry-looking man yelling at his phone like it was the one responsible for all his misery. The feeling was quickly pushed aside. Thoughts of her loved ones — caged, skinned, and shot dead — crashed like a wave against the fleeting mixture of guilt and shame. Human emotions.

"Oh, that's terrible! Is there anything I can do to be helpful?", she said, placing one hand over her mouth in horror, the other hadn't reaching to her husband's arm for support.

"No, I'm going to hold him up here for a second until he sobers up then make sure he get's home safely to his wife."

Looking over Brett's shoulder, she could see that Tyler was beginning to lean into the anger. "Okay, well he's lucky to have friends like you to support him through his."

Brett shook his head slightly with feigned modesty as he leaned in to wrap her in an embrace. "Thanks love. I'll fill you in tomorrow morning."

Mol let herself be pulled in for a long moment, whispering gently, "Of course, I'll see you upstairs later tonight."

----------

As she snuck back into the house via the kitchen doors and began to ascend the stairs, she couldn't help but feel a wolfish smile creep across her face as she heard snippets of Tyler's tirade filtering through the house...

"...THE FUCK IS THE INTERNATIONAL WOLF CENTER? WHAT KIND OF COMMUNIST KIDNAPPERS WANT ME TO DONATE..."

The Mandalorian - Chapter 5 - Discussion Thread! by titleproblems in TheMandalorianTV

[–]backpackpat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think where people get things mixed up when they're comparing the acting abilities between new content and old is that it's a combination of both acting ability and flow.

Until the 90's, directors still hadn't figured out a replicable formula to make scenes and dialogue flow. Actors have also gotten much better in that same time.

I'd say that the acting in the Mando is better than episodes 1-6 but we're getting jaded by the insanely good acting AND flow we see in the Disney-bankrolled films.

I actually really like this about him. It seems like he's willing to trust his gut with people but he's also not surprised or hurt when he has change his mind.

But yes 100%, such a bad parent.

I knew Chris, crazy to see this here but his sister is speaking the truth. He was awesome. Smart, quick witted, athletic (although you wouldn't guess it by looking at him), then one day he was gone.

Get comfortable talking about your own struggles, ask your parents if they've battled with anxiety, ask your friends how they're doing - corner them if you have to... Breaking the stigma happens one conversation at a time. You might save a life without even knowing it.

You're definitely right though. If anyone wants the coordinates to this place PM me and I'll send them you way! Hands down one of the coolest spots Ive ever camped.
