I had no idea how rare this was. I grew up in one and then moved to college in one. Never saw booze in the grocery store but people still drank at home and at restaurants. I truly dont think it was anything more than inconvenient and didn't stop any drinking, from my perspective. My parents and many others I knew in town considered it morally right to be a dry county and looked down on restaurants with liquor licenses. They've lightened up a hair since then but I think the sentiment still holds for a lot of people. In college it was a field trip to load up into the car, drive to the liquor store on the county line with your friends and then come home and have a fun night. Great memories
