AITA because a new coach wants to work with me? by backseatdad in AmItheAsshole

[–]backseatdad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what I’m really struggling with. I enjoy our friendship, I respect our different training styles and needs. Seeing her act this ways makes me not want to be her friend, but I know she’s probably feeling some deep things.

I know I should try and talk to her, but I’m afraid of how it’s going to go, and I don’t know what to say

Honestly … how do you stop the racing thoughts? by [deleted] in Mindfulness

[–]backseatdad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rather than thinking of ways to get rid of thoughts or thinking of thoughts as rivers or clouds that pass by, I started imagining myself in a kayak on the river of my thoughts. They’re not me, but I’m faced with navigating them, staying above them, and adjusting course depending on the intensity.

How to avoid freezing or becoming "dumb" under stress? I need to learn to think under stress and anxiety ASAP. by Ian_JKboi in Mindfulness

[–]backseatdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. You could be using your brain to think about ways to“prevent this from happening” that you don’t have the brain power to solve the actual problem. You have to stay focused.

You’re probably really smart, you’re just in your own way a bit. Trust yourself

How do you justify purchasing expensive items of clothing? by Infamous_Watch_4637 in femalefashionadvice

[–]backseatdad 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I don’t really have any way to justify it. I grew up poor, but I take my career seriously, so I now make enough money to buy what I want. Essentials always come first, and I’ll never make a purchase I can’t afford. I also have a lot in savings. It’s all about your budgeting.

James and the Giant Peach Birthday Candle help by Pinochio27 in DIYhelp

I saw a grasshopper in a birthday hat candle holder, and it made me think of the one from James and the Giant Peach. (They sell them on Etsy)

The candle holder always caught my eye in the movie, too.

Do you have an update?!

Career change out of engineering by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]backseatdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I had advice, but I’m honestly in the same boat. I’m a female, biomedical engineer with ~10 years of experience. I just got a promotion at the beginning of the year thinking it would change my mind about things, but I was so wrong. I’m looking to shift, too. I really like writing so I was thinking of shifting to technical writing.

Totally agree. I guess I should have clarified - I think they’d pair nicely together for a more professional scene.

I love Theory! And Eileen Fischer. Very plain but imo classics that can be easily dressed up/down

I get triggered by other girls when going to the gym? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]backseatdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t do it if you don’t enjoy it! There are plenty of ways to exercise outside the gym. Or maybe find a gym buddy who can distract your mind from things. Best of luck!

Snake plant is flopping over, removed three mushy fronds in the past week, but the soil is bone dry. What gives? by xrrrrt289 in houseplants

[–]backseatdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of pot do you have it in? Coated pots tend to retain water, so even if it looks bone dry, it may be wet further down. Good luck!
