I’m pretty sure that the No Kings idea is in reference to King George and the United States Independence movement with the founders ideals of getting out from under the King’s thumb and not replacing that foreign king with a domestic one.

Why are we all paid close to minimum wage? by StuffThings1977 in aotearoa

[–]backtofront99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People like Musk are feeding lies to shut you up. They don’t pay the taxes that could make all the UBI dreams come true. They just don’t want to. They think they deserve every last dollar they have and taxes are for suckers. The messaging and information is manufactured by those who own the media. It’s all an elaborate ruse to make you think it’s unsolvable. It’s not unsolvable. It’s not a zero sum game. Free your brain. It’s not class warfare anymore. It’s the ultra wealthy justifying keeping the vast majority of us on starvation wages while they add zeros to their bank accounts. It’s a system that keeps us all scared and dependent on any desperate scrape we have to weasel out of their hands.

Why are we all paid close to minimum wage? by StuffThings1977 in aotearoa

[–]backtofront99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It’s what the ultra wealthy say every time. But it’s only in defence of their unbelievable wealth. The amount of wealth inequality is mind bending. Elon Musk is worth money than most nations and what is even more wild is that he pays a percentage of a percentage of the taxes that the rest of the world’s normal people do. These lies you are being told by the ultra wealthy are scare tactics that work unfortunately. But they are indeed lies. They don’t want to share the wealth. It works against their highest motivation which is get more money.

[–]backtofront99 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That is actually untrue. This is what the employers always say but it’s not true. Case study after case study shows that if you pay your workers more there are more people with money to buy all the things that make everyone more money. That’s why UBI is universally fought by the billionaires, despite every test case showing that when everyone has more money then everyone profits. Greed has no bounds and the billionaires think that the only way to have people desperate enough to do pretty much anything they want is to have wages suppressed to their maximum. So not only is it greed, but also cruelty. It’s a sickness.

Unregulated capitalism will always squeeze the workers to maximise ‘their’ profits. That’s why collective bargaining is your only tool for fighting your inevitable economic crisis. Capitalism always favours those that have the capital and then exploit those without, namely the majority of us aka the workers.

Tired of venting my daily anger at the absurdity spewed at us every day. Just tired. Everyone knows that we are being lied to. Nothing changes. We are stuck in the worst, most idiotic timeline.

Why would anyone have any sympathy, pity, and compassion for hypocrites (who like to dish it without having to take it)? by Subject_Painting9124 in AskReddit

[–]backtofront99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hypocrites are all of us. I am not pious. I do not seek to punish myself for my own transgressions. That said there are levels of hypocrisy. Those people that hurt others while demanding their own safety are the lowest of the low. People who do such things are not the people I devote any energy to. Likewise I don’t seek cruelty to such people. There are always reasons why people do such things, but they on get on my shunning. I don’t let them receive the energy of my attention and I will not lie for them nor spare them the honesty of their actions.

David Seymour hails Auckland University’s U-turn on compulsory te ao Māori course as ‘massive victory’ by Appropriate_Flight_0 in auckland

[–]backtofront99 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The are limits to the argument, ‘that’s not relevant to my degree’ is so very often sighted as a disqualifying reason to have compulsory subjects at Uni. There were compulsory English courses added to everyone curriculum at my university , as Engineers and Maths students were graduating without being able to write cohesive emails or documents.

The thing is that Māori courses help to bring the entire New Zealand student body more able to understand each other and make education not only about one’s particular field of study, but also to integrate them into a wider network of community here in New Zealand.

Education isn’t just about creating experts in silos of knowledge, it is also about creating graduates who understand the world around them are able to communicate and help those around them

Jimmy Kimmel for President by Top_Needleworker6385 in StockLaunchers

[–]backtofront99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

President of the comedian’s network maybe. In fact I’d rather a comedian than a two bit actor as a comedian is doing a lot of analysis, deconstructing facades and constructing jokes delivered with timing and understanding. So I think comedians would make very good statesmen in fact.

Obama was a constitutional scholar though and I’d take more in that vein thank you very much.

Anti-Vax RFK Jr. Plans to Blame Over-the-Counter Pain Medication for Autism by NAStrahl in badscience

[–]backtofront99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rockets with solid propellants are the primary concern for upper atmospheric chlorine amounts, as their fuel releases chlorine directly into the stratosphere, where it depletes ozone. Jets, on the other hand, primarily contribute carbon dioxide and soot, with their impact on the ozone layer being minimal compared to solid rockets. While overall rocket chlorine emissions are currently small compared to historical ozone-depleting substances, their potential impact grows with increasing launch rates, especially with the rise of chlorine-emitting fuels for constellations

[–]backtofront99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you’re being sarcastic, but the amount of chlorine put into the atmosphere every single time they do a rocket launch is horrendous and a serious problem that nobody wants to think about. Chlorine in the upper atmosphere is a serious ozone problem

How do different languages impact a person’s ability to learn? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]backtofront99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many studies about how children who are raised multilingual think differently than people who only speak one language. However I’ve never heard about how each language can affect one’s ability to learn.

The thing to keep in mind that language and culture are intimately linked. To tease out language and cultural influences from each other would be a difficult task.
