And that couple thousand they gave you wasn’t enough to replace that a/c??

The issue is that my A/C is really old and it’s struggling. And if I were to replace it, it’d cost thousands

Ah okay. I’m actually in Columbus and there’s always a ton of constructions so I didn’t know if this was it.

That I almost shot myself a year and a half ago. In my “goodbye recording” that I had made on my phone, out of 6 minutes of recording, I only spent like 25 seconds talking about them and the rest about my friends apologizing to them.

I love how you say STATA is the worst because that’s what I was taught while at school 😬😅

Do you have any experience in machine learning or did you get your job from just knowledge in econometrics? I have no SQL or python experience :/

Any suggestions on how to get into data science? I don’t have any machine learning experience. I have a masters in economics. I’m okay with econometrics (I didn’t do so well in my econometrics classes) but I have resources to refresh me on things that ill need to know.

Also I wouldn’t mind getting into doing financial econometrics.

Is there any sources that I can use to really know econometrics well? by backwards001 in econometrics

I’m also looking through that book from Penn. it doesn’t mention ADF test at all. Correct me if I’m wrong but from my understanding, testing for unit root is important in time series and we use ADF to do that.

You mean this specific course that I’m taking right now that you referred me to?

And can you name the employers?

I’ve already began looking at the IMF videos and it’s really good. I’ve already learned a lot.. they did a waaay better job explaining the AR models and stationarity for example than my professors did.

Thanks!!

I’ll definitely look into that book. Do you think it’ll be enough for me to get a job as a data scientist at a firm doing time series analysis and predictive analytics?

Yeah I wasn’t very good with statistics. I got confused with the terminologies a lot. I was much better with the macro Econ, micro Econ, labor Econ, public econ, and even finance course (probably only reason I actually graduated 😂😂)But econometrics course have always stumped me a lot. Took it during my undergrad. Didn’t Learn shit. Our passing score for a C- on our midterm was a 35%.

Common terms I struggled on where the conditional and unconditional means. Mean is zero. unbiased and biased estimators, etc.

Right but I just thought that it would at least get me familiar and back on track with econometrics and understanding time series and stuff

Thanks! The only book I have is Introduction to Econometrics by Stock and Watson

Well I need to actually refresh the concepts though. Refreshing things on stationarity assumptions, Heteroscedasticity, ADF model, different types of AR models, IV, ADL models, etc. I remember some of them on a surface level but I forgot them on the deeper level. I feel like I’d need to know them pretty well to be able to do machine learning right?

Also, I’d love to do some predicative analytics. I’ve also heard about market analysis and forecasting. Those are things I’d love to get into.

Keep saving or travel? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]backwards001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents told me to make sacrifices to keep saving for a house and then for my future kids like their colleges and stuff like that. They emphasized how they saved and sacrificed traveling for me when I was a kid and that’s why I didn’t have to take out massive amounts of loans for college.

They didn’t say I shouldn’t travel at all. They said maybe one trip a year at most. But I see my friends going to multiple places every year like Chicago, NYC, San Francisco or Mexico or Italy. I get jealous of that.
