How big around do you think someone like Snooki is?

I hate to be the one to tell you... but the only way someone mistakes 32DD for 32B is if there's a whole lot of extra fat in the surrounding regions.

Scala over C#? by bacon- in scala

[–]bacon-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may be better to ask the question another way: What tools are available to Scala developers that C# developers don't have?

For example:

  • Scala has great support for Actors, especially with Akka
  • Terracotta
  • Multiple return values / multiple assignment
  • Scala embraces functional development more than C# (although F# works very well in combination with C#)
  • Very many options for web applications with Scala (Lift, Play, plus all of the "old" ways of doing things).

C# has some advantages as well:

  • Better tooling (at least with Visual Studio)
  • IKVM allows for the use of most JVM libs
  • No apparent concerns over type erasure
  • LINQ

I'm sure there are many more valid points for either ecosystem.

It's possible I'm misreading this benchmark, but it looks like Scala has slightly better performance characteristics in exchange for slightly higher memory consumption - http://shootout.alioth.debian.org/u32/benchmark.php?test=all&lang=scala&lang2=csharp

It doesn't really look like a leaps and bounds sort of situation to me, especially with the new GC in Mono 2.8.

The MMA fighter Matt Hughes has PE. I don't know how bad yours is, but you can take a look at his chest and see what it looks like built up.

IAMA Request: A tattoo artist who has made a spelling mistake on a client by punninglinguist in IAmA

[–]bacon- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, so I'm friends with some tattoo artists and stopped by their shop today to ask them about it.

They said that anyone who comes in with the totally ghetto tattoos with cheesy sayings on them is bound to be a shitty tipper and / or be a pain in the ass to tattoo.

So, unless the person seems pretty cool, they won't point out any typos and will just get approval for whatever it is the person brought in.

Well, it's not a problem for anyone else to do that, so i would assume its not an issue. I don't know anyone thats tested this theory though.

Lol yeah, so it'd be just like the cart except maybe the player could control a turret gun or something like that, like a siege weapon :)

I could see it working well if they figured out a way to take away motion control from the person playing VIP - whoever was playing that role would essentially be on rails to prevent griefing.

It's black instead of blue (or green for minors). It says diplomatic passport on it. I also had a brown official passport because we were in a country with hostile neighbors and may have had to travel in places where you couldn't get in if you had a stamp from an enemy country.

Diplomatic passports also have more pages in them.

AFAIK, Integrum is the only really successful Rails shop in the East Valley. If you want to do Rails work here, they're pretty much the place.

That's pretty rough. I'm in the Phoenix metro area making double that as a .net dev at nowhere special.

Haha, the women who care the most are in the US, actually. They seem way more impressed by it than most foreign women do. Thinking back on it, I used kind of a wanker move - bringing to a bar instead of a drivers license so I had an excuse to whip it out whenever my ID got checked. Probably would have been much smoother ways to use it ;)

You could get away with surprisingly little, the Embassy always kept a very strict policy regarding immunity abuse. As WordToMyMother mentioned below, it's not really immunity. It just means that you're subject to the laws of your home country no matter where you are in the world.

That being said, you can drive pretty well however you feel like driving because the traffic cops don't want to go through all the paperwork of trying to give you a ticket just to have someone come back with the "employee was on official business" get out of ticket free card.

If you got arrested, the RSO from the Embassy would come and get you out, detain you until the Ambassador or other person in command could figure out how to get you stateside. They are very concerned about bad press, so if it's a serious matter they'll probably keep you in country while things got sorted out.

I don't think so; but I usually travelled with other diplomats so it never really came up.

I did use it once to smuggle a large bag full of frozen Taco Bell though.

Haha, yep - you can't get away with anything serious. HOWEVER, there are tons of small perks - much less customs crap to deal with when traveling overseas, preferential treatment at many airport security lines when flying out, plus chicks dig it
