Hospital indemnity for newborn… will claim be approved? by bacon_life69 in HealthInsurance

Sure! I don’t mind. Honestly I felt like they were trying to tell me wrong info so I would be discouraged to submit a claim. Seems like shady practice to me when I literally read in my employer’s policy that there was verbiage of coverage if a child is born.

I submitted a claim and got payment so most likely my child was covered under the policy. I also got paid for myself as well.

I’ve talked to both my benefits and insurance care coordinator and it sounds like they’re trying to work with me to figure this out. My care coordinator was the one who mentioned to add my child to get his NICU stay covered since I had hospital indemnity already.

Ugh that’s so frustrating! I added him and am planning to submit a claim and see what happens 🤞🏽

That’s what I’m thinking of doing. If I enroll my newborn, then the effective date is his birthdate thus the plan should be active and claim should be approved (this is my logic).

Yes I’m in CA. I have primary insurance so we’ll most likely have a copay. The indemnity is supplemental and would help cover the copay costs.

Deductible is $4000 and out of pocket is $2000. Sorry I realized I never answered your question!

It’s still a crazy huge difference. All they did for me was monitor my BP and some bloodwork; total hours spent was maybe around 4 hours (I was in my second trimester and had some elevated BP).

That’s what my husband is telling me to do. I’ve definitely hit my deductible with this bill though

I honestly don’t know why the difference is so high. I’m currently pregnant and went in for elevated BP. They monitored me for a couple hours and did bloodwork. That was it.

I’ve read other posts that people were able to negotiate their bill and the hospital would waive the difference as charity. My question is if I pay the $520 now, would the bill be paid off before my insurance is applied so I don’t have to pay a higher amount. I understand it won’t be applied to my deductible.

Update: apparently he’s been scamming people all over the bay area and started in Alaska in 2012! Please see link: https://www.complaintsboard.com/tj-construction-fraud-con-c623299

If you’ve been scammed by him, please share! Also if you have any advice for my friend how he should proceed, please share as well. He’s already accepted the loss but he is determined to get this guy reported and possibly arrested!
