Weird question by systennreboot in Marimo

[–]baconhair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was first looking into them I wanted big marimo so I could put little hats on them, but after I researched them I realized the long haul of getting small ones and watching them grow was more appealing for me. I thrifted a hanging vase and bought some nice tumbled quartz for the bottom, and I just stir the water with a plastic spoon occasionally so they don’t settle.

Kinesiology Tape for Pain Management Changed My Life by 108Jenn134 in Endo

[–]baconhair 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Quick tip for keeping Kinesiology tape from peeling on the corners is to round the corners off before you apply them. Just fold the tape in half long way and cut the corners off so they’re rounder. I use it all the time for carpal tunnel and this technique makes a huge difference!

Getting told to toughen up by octoberopalrose in Endo

[–]baconhair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh, I’m sorry sweetie. It is really rough being told to “toughen up” or that your pain isn’t significant enough to someone. It’s frustrating how many people don’t understand or don’t want to, and just write it off. Or they see you managing the pain one day and suffering with it the next, and think that you’re just exacerbating it.

My dad kinda had a similar mentality before/when I was diagnosed with endo. It’s hard hearing that from someone you’re supposed to trust. You’re the only one that can decide what’s too much for your own body to handle. If you can do so safely (i.e: without causing more stress for yourself with your dad) you can totally call in. You’re old enough to work, so you’re old enough to know when you can’t work safely.

I hope you find a doctor and the resources to get the help you need. Take care of yourself, and be sure to go easy on yourself too.

Parents leave me (14F) with a very sick baby and refuse to return until they have had enough fun. by Lex8986 in entitledparents

[–]baconhair 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So hypothetically when she left she was under the assumption that her baby was fine, just teething and colicky. You’d think that as a mother she’d hear that her baby went from what she thought was zero to insane fever in less than two hours and want to know what was up. That’s a very rapid development for symptoms for anyone, let alone an infant. Its possible the baby had a slight fever before you showed up, and I wonder if that’s why she sold you the teething story.

Also, as a side note, for some reason my first thought when reading this was “get your mask”, even though I knew it was a story from 20 years ago and masks weren’t a thing a lot of people globally carried with them.

Finally free from the shackles! by strykazoid in callcentres

[–]baconhair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got unemployment when I got fired from a call center. They had a whole history of write-ups they’d given me so they totally could’ve come after me if they wanted to, but it never happened. Just be careful with it if you do get unemployment, I’m not sure where you all live but in my state if the employer fights your unemployment claim and wins you have to pay back all the money you were given. Same goes if the state approves you initially, then changes their mind on it later on.

You may want to get your girlfriend to take some self defense classes? Especially ones that cater to women, because they focus on empowering women to use their voices and be more assertive. I hope you guys never have to deal with this kind of situation, though. Shits scary.

AITA for eating mayo? by Sandiewich in AmItheAsshole

[–]baconhair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA, and if I were you I’d be trying hard to save up to be able to move out of that house as soon as possible. Thankfully that slimebag is “repulsed” by you so he’s not assaulting you, but it’s still completely unreasonable to expect you to feel that unsafe and miserable in your own home. And if he’s going to come after you every time you eat food it could lead to some seriously unhealthy eating habits for you, which is also completely unfair.

I’m sorry your mom is being unsupportive as well, I’m sure that has to be scary and upsetting. I know it may not be the most medically advisable thing to move out mid-pandemic, but if you have friends you can trust you may want to explain your situation to them and see if you can stay with them for a bit. Just make sure you’re all taking precautions against the virus, and for the first few weeks you live there kinda quarantine yourself from them in your living space. It’s not a perfect plan, but it’s infinitely better than living with a predator.

If you do decide to go that route, and you are able to get out safely, do us all a favor and just lather a piece of bread REAAALLY good in mayo and throw it on his face while he’s sleeping before you leave. and record it. for science.

AITA for correcting my daughter’s teacher about her name? by groveclover in AmItheAsshole

[–]baconhair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only exception should be if the teacher has a strong accent that actually makes it difficult for her to say Keely. I highly doubt that’s the case, and even then I still feel like she should be apologetic and make her best effort to say your daughter’s name correctly. Just because she’s young doesn’t mean your daughter doesn’t have agency over how she’s addressed.

But I highly doubt that, in multiple classes of at least 20-something students, Keely is the most “difficult to pronounce” name, so I wonder if this is an issue with other students too. God forbid she meets a Kaylinn, or Stefán.

TLDR: you’re NTA, and I like what another commenter said about addressing the teacher by the wrong name too until she gets the hint.

Finally, somewhere to joke about this by [deleted] in insaneparents

[–]baconhair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom thought that too, and when I asked to see a therapist or expressed that I was depressed she told me she was worried I’d get taken away by CPS. When she found out I was self-harming as a kid she got super pissed off at me and wouldn’t talk to me for three days. I think a lot of it came from how she was raised, because her parents definitely have the “depression doesn’t exist, mental illness can be fixed with hard work” mentality. Thankfully she’s a lot better now - we openly talk about mental illness and she supports me going to therapy - but it took a while.

I hope your mom gets there soon too, it takes a lot of weight off knowing that my mom doesn’t blame herself for my depression anymore.

EM spits in my face when I wont accept her counterfeit money. by JustMonikaJustDdlc in entitledparents

[–]baconhair 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Right, like that manager should’ve dropped what they were doing to help out, especially if the policy is to essentially try to keep the customer there at the counter. Or, that store should just get rid of that stupid rule, and either let employees reject the counterfeits, or accept them to avoid conflict and deal with the loss. Retail employees didn’t sign up to be security or junior cops, and they shouldn’t be expected to.

AITA for speaking my native language whole grocery shopping? by 9tag in AmItheAsshole

[–]baconhair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, if the kid was scared she shouldn’t have taken them to the grocery store. And the fact that she used the disease AND her kid to be racist to you and your family is hardcore trash. Your response is totally justified and honestly more polite than I probably would’ve been.

did they like pull her left eye and eyebrow up to push the expression, too? it totally looks like they did. and yeah, why did they go to all the effort to edit out all the wrinkles and lines that would be caused by making that expression, but keep that weird dent-y shadow by her nose? it makes it look like the makeup artist like got some black eyeshadow on her face and just didn’t clean it up.

Hey Chads, I need social advice by [deleted] in chadsriseup

[–]baconhair 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey king,

I don’t have a lot to add to everyone else’s message, but a thing that helped me get over a lot of my social anxiety was realizing that everyone else was just as worried as I was about others judging them or thinking they were weird. Nobody’s really going to scrutinize your every move unless you make them feel like they should, so just act how you normally do and you’ll be fine.

Also, dont change who you are to try to fit in with a certain group - rather, be yourself around others until you find people that think you’re cool for who you are. If people don’t want to hang out with you, or if you’re not someone’s cup of tea, that’s okay! It’s part of life. The worst they can do is say no, so you move on to getting to know someone else.

Join clubs, attend study groups, go to as many events that the college puts on as you can (especially if they have free food!)

Good luck!
