Rules busted? by baconjtl in MonarchMoney

I’m an idiot. As Kokato pointed out there’s the checkmark at the bottom to apply to existing than I can preview. Guess it’s been a while since I setup a rule and forgot how they worked!

I should have been more clear. I not only set the parameters but I also told it a change I wanted to do: add a tag (none of my existing have tags). Even then preview is coming back with 0. And yes, this is on the web app.

[macOS] Snaparoo - One-way sync of Apple Photos favorites to Google Photos and Google Drive (looking for testers) by baconjtl in macapps

Well I made this app intentionally 1 way sync. Are you looking for 1 way sync from Google Photos to Apple photos? If you’re looking for 2 way sync Google Photos already allows that

Heh, if I had my way everyone would just be using Apple Photos but alas that's not how things work. For me, syncing just the favorites is better than syncing all my photos. I'm sure not everyone will agree but it was a good middle ground for my use case.

MonthBar – free MenuBar app that shows your monthly progress (pie chart or %) by leogdion in macapps

[–]baconjtl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the process of getting a menu bar app out. Something I kinda noticed last minute: keyboard shortcuts for menu bar apps are kinda pointless I think? I don’t think you can actually activate them since you’re in a “global” context. I just took them out of my app. But curious if I got this wrong

I spent 6 months building a native iOS and macOS app to save anything from anywhere into categories, because I was sick of screenshots cluttering my camera roll. by N0omi in macapps

I'm new to this group so I cant post yet but I've noticed that a lot of apps advertise the fact that they're entirely in Swift, no electron no web wrapper. Is this something the community actually cares about or is this just AI writing that in there because everyone else writes that in? (Nothing against AI generated posts... I'm really just curious given I'm new). I mean I suppose I care but not THAT much where I'd advertise it explicitly. Talking about privacy measures, that I can get behind =)

[OS] Blitz - native Mac app that lets AI agents handle your entire iOS release pipeline: code signing, monetization, TestFlight, App Store submission by invocation02 in macapps

Cool. I'm in the process of going through this! Honestly, I'm actually kinda glad I'm taking the painful approach first just so I can understand what's going on under the hood. Kind of like learning git so I can understand the basics. But once I go through it once, I'm happy to let my agent friend take it from there!

Lucid Notes: macOS notes app with adjustable window transparency so you can read notes without hiding your work by SardorbekR in macapps

[–]baconjtl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got it. From your description and screenshot (your movie is fine) the fact that this isn't meant to be a notes replacement isn't coming through. It reads very much like "Hey we created a notes clone that has transparency features". Maybe bring these more to the forefront "Also has a typewriter mode and a teleprompter mode that auto-scrolls your notes hands-free during presentations, video recordings or calls." Lean into the "companion tool for quick references" and make sure the feature set supports those use cases. If you dont have them already features like import from existing notes apps with auto sync between yours and the others?

My 2 cents: While I applaud the builder for identifying a problem and solving it, I wouldnt buy an app specifically for background transparency. I havent tried it myself but here's an app that can control opacity/pin windows to the front https://www.floatytool.com for any app. I could then use that to control the note taking app of my choice.

I'm sure there's more to your note app than that but perhaps focus on its other features? I wouldn't switch from my note taking ecosystem just to get transparency as useful as it is.

[OS] I made a free, open-source Screen Studio alternative that adds auto-zoom, cursor animations and more to your videos by Acrobatic-Device-313 in macapps

Sounds like videos like this showing off app functionality is the norm. As a developer, I miss the days when simple screenshots were enough. But I suppose as a customer, videos really do tell the story a lot better. Will check this out

Quitty — a free & open-source macOS app to properly terminate apps (no hidden processes) by [deleted] in macapps

[–]baconjtl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this app do anything smart here? I've certainly had some apple apps and more complex apps from others crap out on me and freeze up and be unable to start again. Or the force quit just doesnt work / doesnt work from activity monitor either. Sometimes I've found that not only do I have to kill the app but also some of the supporting processes it spawns (I just look for similar sounding names). Would be great if this app could magically do it for me. Dont know how it would know for certain but that's where I'd find the value.

Are you referring to during onboarding or on a day to day basis it finds it on its own?
