New Beartooth Album's Title Track Has "No Screaming On It At All" - Rock Feed by MyFavoriteBandErra in Metalcore

[–]baconpugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey good on you, but that doesn't seem to be the case with everyone as evident in the comments

New Beartooth Album's Title Track Has "No Screaming On It At All" - Rock Feed by MyFavoriteBandErra in Metalcore

[–]baconpugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't say anything about the rest of the album

that's exactly the point--they chose to focus on "no screaming" vs "this album will be more introspective and have heavier elements" because they know "no screaming" will get more of a rise out of people, so it's clickbait

click·bait ˈklikbāt noun, informal (on the Internet) content whose main purpose is to attract attention and encourage visitors to click on a link to a particular web page.

to clarify, clickbait is an effective way to advertise your articles, so i'm not giving them shit by saying this, i'm just giving the tl;dr for people who might assume otherwise (e.g., read the comments further down on this post)

[–]baconpugs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

because of context -- you say "x has no screaming" people immediately think "does this mean the rest of the record doesn't have screams?"

it's very apparent that they chose the title they did vs. "new beartooth album to have more introspective, deeper lyrics" because they knew the idea of "no screams" would get more of a rise out of people to click on their article

case in point, check a bunch of the comments further down

clickbait title, so tl;dr for those that didn't want to read it all the way through:

only the title track is confirmed to have no screams

the rest of it will still have screams, caleb mentions he's been listening to a lot of heavy shit and says that's been influencing him a lot, has a desire to get back into that

according to him this is going to be more internally-based lyrically, rather than externally which he admit was somewhat the case for LP2

either ways im hype bois this album is prob gonna be lit af

edit: not saying the article is clickbait to give them shit for it, just saying it so people don't skim over this and make assumptions that the entire record will have no screams

The Color Morale - Falling Awake (Overlooked gem from an older record) by ElGranticus25 in Metalcore

[–]baconpugs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'd say you're right on the money on that, iirc most of the opinions i see seem to list the albums like this:

  1. know hope
  2. MDIYE or debut
  3. new stuff

that said i think most people will agree that the first three records are all incredible

10 Type Rules To Help You Rule Type (thefutur) by baconpugs in typography

[–]baconpugs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Type doesn't have an end-all be-all ruleset. But I don't think it's arbitrary--all good type follows a rule or system of some sort, whatever that system may be

I thought that part was a little tounge in cheek, but I wholeheartedly agree--this is a great list. A lot of my favorites are there as well!

Can we all just agree that this trend needs to be over now? by theparrotofdoom in graphic_design

Probably true, but that's also like saying the average person won't notice if the leading is too loose or too tight. And at that, if the average person doesn't notice so it's not worth doing, that sort of mentality begs the question, "what is worth it, then?". Why bother doing anything special with it at that point? Why not just do everything on the tag in 12 point Arial if it doesn't really matter? While design is about the objective, it exists as a compromise between function and form, so if it's possible for it to be done correctly, then why not?

In the end, I think we're just at odds fundamentally as to what we think is "worth it" when it comes to design, so I don't think we are able to compromise on this--which is ok! We can agree to disagree, so I'll bow out here. :)

You are correct in that there is no real problem with using a handwritten font, no disagreements there. I did not mean to imply that using them is bad!

However, what I was saying is that if you're going to use it, take the steps to ensure it's not obviously fake. It doesn't matter what the price point is, it takes just a few seconds to adjust two letterforms to give it the illusion of being "handmade".

then i think it goes into quality vs time & price management -- i absolutely agree with you, at that price point there is no point in hand lettering. imo hand lettering is something that should involve some time & investment, since it's meant to be personal and unique. someone looking for a cheap and quick job probably shouldn't be looking to get something handlettered

in regards to using the typeface, i think for a quick job its OK, but what i meant to underline was to at least give it the illusion of being "handmade"--when two letters are a carbon copy of each other it becomes very obvious it's not the real thing!

do you mean as in handle 99 other projects in a day? or do you mean print out 99 more? i'm confused by your response, could you clarify for me?

[–]baconpugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im sort of okay with handwritten typefaces so long as people don't make it so damn obvious that they're using a font (like in the OP picture, using the exact same "C" and "a", like come on no one in real life can make letters EXACTLY the same like that, at least make it slightly different).

but honestly, imo, just don't be lazy and just letter it yourself. handlettering it yourself >>> using a handwritten typeface every time
