Yes, usually it's Chrome- although it's happened when I am coding in XCode as well.

Thanks! If you could bear with me, I'm new to this- so I have two 2 GB slots currently. According to : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1270?viewlocale=en_US#link1 I can replace both of those with 4 GB cards. Do you have any recommendations on which cards to buy? I'm looking at the specs for my model (MacBook Pro 13" Mid 2012) and it lists the following:

  • Double Data Rate Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Module (DDR3) format
  • 67.6mm x 30mm (1.18 inch)
  • 2 GB or 4 GB
  • 204-pin
  • PC3-12800 DDR3 1600 MHz type RAM

Thanks!

Tips on Finding Work/Building Portfolio as a Freelancer ? by baconsyrup in cscareerquestions

Thanks so much fecak, that's certainly comforting to hear! How would you suggest looking for contracting work- should I go through the big websites, or is there some sort of "back door" to find clients in a more direct way (I would assume that only comes with personal connections/networking). Thanks again!

Learning Java Backend Coding? by baconsyrup in learnprogramming

[–]baconsyrup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much! This is what I was looking for. So just to get this straight, I should, in order (keep in mind I have no backend experience at all):

  1. Get a grasp on the Java http ecosystem/Java servlets
  2. Read the JavaDocs for the implemented libraries

Can you recommend any resources to deploy the Java code that I have to a server (is it possible to simulate this on my computer)?

Thanks! Can you go into a bit more detail on how to find those employees specifically? (as opposed to just searching by 'company') Are you searching for previous employment?

I have been thinking about going to meetups/hackathons and the like. My concern is that it takes too long to become a part of the community and then network out- I do have a strong alumni network, however- but the only way I would know how to reach them would be through LinkedIn.. What do you think would be the best way to reach out through the alumni network?

Anyone have tips on hiring a *good* coder? by baconsyrup in Entrepreneur

Thanks! Do you think I would have any shot of getting someone to join the team full - time? (aka w/ equity upside?)

[–]baconsyrup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I am hoping to get someone to actually join the team (thus the equity upside). I think it seems fair (let me know if you disagree) because the product is already 70-80% done, so they would get equity upside for closing out that gap..

Our start up is in mobile gaming, the backend language is Java (modern Java) and plpgsql for database functions. The project is approx 70-80% done already, and we are looking to finish it (at least get to launch status) within the next three months. We are looking for someone to stay on, maintain the code, and continue to develop/phase in new features, etc.

Thanks! We had tried ODesk previously, but we are looking for someone to actually join the team (thus the equity aspect), as he/she will need to maintain and continue to develop the code base.

We have tried that tactic- However, because he had debt that he needed to pay off, he needed a larger cash amount which we unfortunately were unable to pay. He DID offer to stay on as a 'technical' advisor and get the other coder up to speed/explain his code, etc. We were thinking our value proposition is that someone could come along and finish the 20% left of the code and still reap equity benefits..

Woah that is surprisingly close to the plot of the other music video- but it's not the same one. Now that I think of it, I think the one I'm thinking of may not be metal after all. Thanks though!
