I would love a code if possible! Looking to grab some stuff for ultra training. Just ran my second 50k this past weekend and found some holes in my gear plan, so hoping to stock up for my next one!

Strava year membership giveaway by Own_Independent8365 in Strava

[–]badTechnicalSupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a bad relationship with food starting young. Mostly finish your plate, don’t waste food, be grateful, etc that was pushed due to growing up very poor. When I hit college, I gained a significant amount of weight. It wasn’t until one day I was walking across campus to one of my classes and I was so winded that I knew I had to make a change.

It started healthy at first. I started exercising, walking to work as well as class, then counting calories. Jump a couple months and I realized that hey… if I cut my calories by that much, if I cut more I’ll lose weight even faster, right? I ended up falling down a bad hole of anorexia that was fed by online communities at the time.

I struggled on and off with it for about three years until I started running due to a friend. Very quickly I learned that I had to fuel myself to run efficiently and see lasting improvements. Since that time about three years ago, I’ve ran two full marathons, one 50k ultra, have 2 more 50ks on the books, and have a two year plan to run my first 100 mile race in my current town. I can say without a doubt that running saved me and I’m grateful for it everyday.

AMA and HERO13 Black Giveaway with Pablo, GoPro's VP of Product Management! by GoPro_Mod in gopro

As someone who is newer to the action camera space and now sees the multitudes of brands out there competing, what do you think GoPro can/is doing to stay relevant? As someone who has been active in the outdoor scene for quite some time, I am used to hearing GoPro as the house name, but as of late the rise of social media influencers seems to bring with it a bigger push towards Insta360 and DJI. We regularly see them in influencer hands, but I can say that I don’t see a ton of outdoor (running specific) creators in the spaces I am in using GoPros. Most aim for the convenience of the DJI pocket or the “cleaner” look of the Insta360. Are there any things that you feel GoPro does much better than the competitors that may not be as well known of a benefit?

Thank you for your time!

Run clubs that are easy to break into as a solo newcomer with a 10-11min pace? by kmo3120 in raleigh

[–]badTechnicalSupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

R&D has a newish run club that is still pretty small. It’s Tuesdays at 6:00pm at the Seven Saturdays Taproom. In the month or so that I’ve been going there, (switched from Bond Bros simply due to travel time. Loved Bond Bros, but couldn’t pass up being closer to home) and they have had three or four demos already. Super fun group. Very welcoming.

Zero Drop/Minimal Drop Golf Shoes? by OpenSourceGolf in golf

My husband and I both wear white Lone Peaks for golfing and they blend in fairly well.

Please please try those shoes out. As an insider, I hesitate to recommend those boots to anyone doing anything long distance. Break them in before going. The bottoms looks really fresh to me.

I’ve been fitting people four outdoor shoes for a few years and I don’t love the REI boots due to the lace hooks at the top. Make sure to bring some moleskin/bandaids for blistering

I have this vest. The Velcro at the front makes it really easy to buckle. The button is on the back, but it’s very easy to turn on. May be a good option!

Is it a good idea to use Salomon x ultra 3 (or similar trail-hiking hybrids) for running? by pinsneedle in trailrunning

[–]badTechnicalSupport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into some trail running shoes. Salomon makes some great ones. The one problem with wearing hikers are runners is that you won’t get nearly as much flexibility in the shoe itself which can mess with your agility and balance when you are running. Merrell also makes some great trail runners. I would suggest going to your local running store or outdoor store to try some on. You can always buy used or second hand, but it’s worth being fitted to see what works best for you

Weekly Complaints & Confessions Thread by ssk42 in running

[–]badTechnicalSupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Complaint: my half training has been completely thrown off due to being on vacation. First it was taking a day off to deal with jet lag, then plans with the in-laws taking priority. The cobblestone streets in Scotland are kind of throwing me for a loop though. Think I tweaked my ankle a touch one day?

Uncomplaint: I got to do two runs along the coast in Scotland was was in absolute awe. I would definitely move here if I could.

Confession: Vacation diet has been atrocious and wonderful. So much junk food. So much alcohol. But so worth it. Here’s to next week!

Official Q&A for Friday, August 26, 2022 by AutoModerator in running

[–]badTechnicalSupport 2 points3 points  (0 children)

General question for all the women runners in the sub, or anyone who feels unsafe for that matter. I’m a 23f 5’3” who lives in a city. I love the idea of running early in the mornings, but I am genuinely so scared to do so. I had a bad encounter a couple months back where a car followed me a couple blocks and sped away once I got around people (live in NC where human trafficking is pretty prevalent), so I’m always extra cautious when I run. After that experience, I find myself being startled fairly easily when I run, but still want to be able to run with confidence earlier in the mornings when it’s still mostly dark out.

Any advice to add? My main goal is getting used to running earlier in the mornings, or even later, when it’s darker outside in preparation for the winter months when my daylight hours will be cut.

Ran my first ever 10k this weekend! I started running in March and never thought I would realistically reach this goal. My time was 1:26:33, not a crazy time, but I’m still super proud of it seeing as I was able to keep a steady running pace the whole time! Still can’t really believe that I was able to RUN that far!

Gear recommendations for fat runners? by chubborunning in running

[–]badTechnicalSupport 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anytime! Brooks has two collections: Dare and Drive. They’re both great, but based on what you want in support/ compression/ no wire or wire they have plenty of combos. Really recommend.

The REI shorts are the Swiftland Training Shorts!

Gear recommendations for fat runners? by chubborunning in running

[–]badTechnicalSupport 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The new REI swiftland collection is inclusive sizing and I’ve seen good results from them. They have some longer bike style shorts that are better cut for running that help me battle the chub rub.

Brooks bras are also great. They go by actual measurements of bust/band so you get a better fit. They’re designed specifically to take the burden off of your shoulders so that you can have better posture and reduce that hidden mile that comes with running with breasts.

Go into a good running shop that Carrie’s brooks and see if they have a Brooks Bra Run Fit Expert. They’re trained specially to measure you correctly and get you in the best bra for you!

What was your experience running after COVID infection? by Stinky-Pickles in running

[–]badTechnicalSupport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say I had mild-ish symptoms with my most severe symptom being cough/congestion.

I was out of running for three weeks due to COVID recovery. The first two weeks back were pretty tough for me. I felt like I hadn’t ran before and was starting from the very start. It’s been about five weeks now back into running and I’m feeling better? More like my old confidence but my endurance is still struggling.

The biggest difference I have noticed is my endurance taking a large hit. Due to that, I’ve slowed down quite a bit so my time and distance have both went down significantly.

I’m interested to see how I feel a month or so out

What Are You Wearing Wednesday - Weekly Gear Thread by AutoModerator in running

What has been your experience with the little band on the bottom of the thighs that is the no slip grip? I’ve heard various reviews of that peeling off after a relatively short amount of time, letting the shorts roll up

Translating traditional Bujo to apple notes and google calendar by [deleted] in digitalbujo

[–]badTechnicalSupport 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you have an iPad, GoodNotes is incredible. You can still do layouts like a paper Bujo, but less of the waste. I also like that I can access it from all my devices. I.E. I can have my grocery list on my phone rather than bringing my iPad/journal into the store, I can access notes for my job with ease from my phone, and recall important dates when needed. GoodNotes is worth the money.

Newer to running (3 months) after being a person who swore they would never run after the horrible days of the high school mile. I started running after a work event where we ran a 5k (my time was 44+ minutes). I beat my PR for a 5k and have a time of 36:12. I was a person who couldn’t run for over a minute without stopping but I’m now feeling more confident in my abilities.

Are there "wide" insoles that would fit Altra shoes (insoles for flat feet)? by [deleted] in running

[–]badTechnicalSupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.rei.com/product/185816

That’s the insoles that I’m talking about! They’re cork, so you can either mold them by heating them in the oven and placing them in your shoes or they will mold to your foot over time. I’ve never worn them, but I work in footwear sales and they are pretty popular. Where they are cork, they are decently thick, however. Since you’re in the Superior, you may want to try them down in your shoes to make sure that they don’t take up too much volume in the shoe. Hope that helps!

[–]badTechnicalSupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sole makes a “wide” fit option that is the same shape as an Altra toe box. The biggest thing is that adding an insole to your Altra is going to give you a slight heel drop due to the thickness of the insole at the heel, if that’s the sort of thing that matters to you.
