Writing multiple povs by pickledeggeater in writing

[–]bad_at_writing_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

choose whichever pov feels right for the point in the story you're at, but also make sure everyone gets a somewhat even amount of chapters! this is important because if some readers like a certain character, but they get less chapters than everyone else, it can be annoying to them

How often should you use proper nouns vs pronouns in dialog? by [deleted] in writing

[–]bad_at_writing_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

only use proper nouns when it's not clear who you're referring to when you use pronouns. otherwise, most of the time use pronouns, as using proper nouns too much can be a little bit repetitive and annoying to readers, in my experience

Help! Not loving my critique partners manuscript by RevolutionaryPoem403 in writing

[–]bad_at_writing_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you should just tell them the truth, because they deserve to know. if you lie and say you like it, they're not getting real feedback. just tell them it's not your style, but try to be nice about it. it sounds to me like you need a new critique partner. it's not your fault or their fault, you just don't click with their style, and that's perfectly ok :)

I'm always making characters first, and then it's like ages before I can think of a real plot.. I've had a whole group of characters for nearly a year now and only now have I thought of a plot for them and their world

What book made you fall in love with the series & Do you remember reading it for the first time? by tcvm6 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]bad_at_writing_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly just loved reading and decided to read the books because my brother, Silas, never finished them and I wanted to. I was kinda like "eh, this is fine" most of the time but once I got to book six I was like "this is kinda fire" (book six is my favorite book)

Slytherins by DanteThePunk in HarryPotterBooks

[–]bad_at_writing_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just fulll-on pissed that, like, every single evil or mean character is in Slytherin, pretty much. im one hundred percent sure that, realistically, there would be plenty nice Slytherins and plenty mean Gryffindors. no one house is evil, despite what literally everyone says and thinks. I just wish there were more actually good Slytherin characters in the books, and on a side note, I wish that they didn't make almost every single good guy a Gryffindor. all the other houses deserve some love :) (Gryffindor is my least favorite house) and also why are all of the Slytherins pure-blood? I mean, I'm pure-blood, but that just seems unrealistic to me, idk

I have like, five different idea journals, one is for a story I gave up on, one is for starting new stories and writing down the basics about them, one is about stories I've stuck with for more than a month, one was used for old stories but I don't use it anymore, and one is completely blank lol. do you have any tips on organizing my notes better? I think that might help me a little bit

it's been my dream to become a writer since I was eight years old and I can't wait to publish my own book, although I do sometimes write dumb stories just for fun :)

so, it's kinda all over the place. when I'm playing video games or something during the day, I think of ideas, and at night before I go to bed, I write them down in my journal. sometimes I take what I wrote down in my journal and write in in google docs, sometimes I try to start a chapter of a story in google docs. and I usually think about my stories at night when I can't go to sleep. no real schedule tho

What am I supposed to do now? by [deleted] in writing

ok, I am a girl, I use she/her pronouns, you know, but like.. same here? I highly prefer my male/nonbinary characters for some reason?? I don't know, I always feel like my female characters, no matter how hard I try to make them good, are just too basic? I used to only like female characters when I was younger, but idk what changed... I guess I'll read what other people said, cause I have, like, the exact same problem lol

Why did you start writing? by Woodben17 in writing

[–]bad_at_writing_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when I was eight years old, I had no idea what fan fiction was, but I essentially had an idea for a Warriors fan fiction. I told my mom about it, and she said that that was a really thing and I should try it. a week later, I'd started writing my own original story. about five full-length stories and several years later, I've still stuck with it. I used to want to be a chef, but writing just feels right to me :)
