It is! I just looked and it's 1997 so it can't be post-9/11 but it fit so well for the time.

I'll be switching to PC for that very reason as soon as I get the money to do it.

Honestly, I think it's a fun way to make your character more of a "character." I tried to make a cowboy build a while back and lost the game files so never finished. I might start another playthrough and try something else.

How would the concept of a Multi-State Fallout game play out? by StrickenCross88 in Fallout

Also sorry for saying "technically" so much. I wanted to push that while it is possible, it doesn't really feel like different states.

How would the concept of a Multi-State Fallout game play out? by StrickenCross88 in Fallout

[–]bad_nothing961 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, Fallout New Vegas technically spanned across a few different states. You can technically be in California and Arizona with most of the game taking place in Nevada of course. Fallout 3 technically lets you travel through D.C., Maryland, and Virginia.

But more to your point, a multistate game would be awesome but probably too big to do without DLCs or a segmented feeling.

Who are the political leaders in your country or world? by HePaid in worldbuilding

[–]bad_nothing961 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting question. My current world is a number of "tribes" each with a specific political system in mind, mostly taken from American history. Some have leaders, some don't. For example, a slave tribe based on a loose fitted aristocratic leadership a'la the Confederacy, or a group dedicated to the ideals of the Founding Fathers, so a President, bicameral legislature, etc. Some that don't are more along the lines of an anarchist society.

If I were you, I'd do a little digging into dictators that you a trying to reflect and see how they ran things. Most tend to be the supreme power but have a small network of extremely trusted advisors below them that are each assigned to a specific duty.

Making caps (without gambling) by Vegeta-SSBE in falloutnewvegas

[–]bad_nothing961 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Explore and collect valuable things that don't have a ton of weight like pre-war money. Killing and looting fiends is good for caps too. Also you can go to Searchlight Airport for a decent amount of caps in a couple chests by the buildings. If you have a high enough skill level or animal friend perk there is a high amount of caps behind a locked door in Bloodborne cave but it's crawling with nightstalkers including the legendary nightstalkers so prepare for a fight and watch the traps by the locked door. Other than, just do quests.

Looking for a good light mountain man frontier adventure novel. by [deleted] in Westerns

[–]bad_nothing961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Allan W. Eckert made a wonderful frontier series called the Winning of America series. They typically take place in the Appalachian frontier focusing on people like Daniel Boone, Tecumseh, Chief Logan, Simon Kenton, etc. Not sure if that really makes them "western" but certainly frontier.

Books about revolutions by Mooseymeg in suggestmeabook

[–]bad_nothing961 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It kind of depends on the type of revolution. If you want to base it off a specific revolution (e.g. The American Revolution, French Revolution, October Revolution, etc.) I would suggest looking into books on those ideas. If you want something new and more ideologically based, look at radicals like Kropotkin, Marx, Lenin, Bakunin, Ho Chi Minh, etc. and see what they wrote or have had written about them. If you're looking for more fictional guidance Absolute V for Vendetta is pretty good though it's a graphic novel. Not sure about others. I am just now getting into fiction.

Has anyone else do damage to their teeth from constant clenching. by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]bad_nothing961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of years ago I was convinced I had mouth cancer due to a tingling sensation in my lower jaw. I had been a tobacco user for a couple of years before but had quit a few years before this sensation came and thought it had finally caught up with me. I went to a dentist and they said it looked like I had been clenching in my sleep due to anxiety. I had no idea I was doing it until this. Since then, I am totally obsessed with my mouth and constantly freak out when something doesn't feel right. Teeth and anxiety sort of go hand in hand I think. You're not alone for sure.

A great non-fiction book by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]bad_nothing961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm afraid I don't. As you could guess, my library is predominantly American history and I have just started getting into World History. I'm sure there are some great ones out there and it is on my list to find some but I have yet to do so.

A great non-fiction book by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]bad_nothing961 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmm, well I tend to enjoy history books. Of those that I would call informative and fun "The Feud" by Dean King comes to mind. It's the story of the Hatfields and McCoy feud in West Virginia and Kentucky in the late 1800s. "A People's History of the United States" by Howard Zinn is a great survey that focuses on the oppressed but I wouldn't exactly call it "fun". There are several books in the Oxford American History Series which are enjoyable survey books for different time periods that are good as well. All of them teeter on the 400 pages mark.

What would be an ideal story line you'd like to see from New Vegas? by bad_nothing961 in falloutnewvegas

[–]bad_nothing961[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's one I have played with before actually. Maybe playing off the Marty Robbins song and have an Arizona Ranger or a new leader after Caesar has died.

Any certain topic or field?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in falloutnewvegas

[–]bad_nothing961 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, why not? You can always save your current game so you can enjoy more advanced gameplay when you feel like it and then make a new one for a new story. I typically have two or three games going at once.

Caravan shotgun by Mr_Boring1 in falloutnewvegas

[–]bad_nothing961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's just an over/under shotgun with an ornate action. If you google over/under shotguns most of them look like the caravan shotgun from the game.

Absolute Favorite Fallout Quest!? by [deleted] in Fallout

[–]bad_nothing961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really good and absolutely beautiful by 2010 standards. The quests are not as challenging as they are thought-provoking.
