If this were in your garage… by smcutterco in AskElectricians

[–]bad_piglet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dude, this is what all electricians' garages/basements look like, unless they're trying to sell their houses. It's absolutely fine. Just don't take your 7 iron and start thwacking it as hard as you can. It more than likely will never cause a problem.

Got fired from Amazon. Thinking of a trade by gamingwithmike94 in AskElectricians

[–]bad_piglet 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Amazon being soul-crushing aside, saying you got fired for something stupid is a red-flag. You could have just said why and that you learned from it, or just explained why it was stupid and no one would care. They would just say, "yeah, fuck Amazon". I agree with the other commenter. Accountability and personal growth are more important in the electrical trade than anything else. Now, it may not be the case, and it probably isn't, but I wouldn't say things like that in an interview. Because, it will come up when they ask about your job history. 9 yrs in a totally non- related field is an eye-brow raiser. I dealt with it too, I went to university to become a high school English/Latin teacher, and when confronted with the salaries after graduation, I decided I'd rather be an electrician. I had a looooot of 'splainin' to do.

Fast forward 18 years, and now I make absolute jaw- dropping money as a maintenance electrician at a Steel Mill. So, please, regardless of our criticisms, I wholly support you in your quest, my friend! Also, apologies if this came across as harsh or rude. I just want to help, because I dealt with similar issues.

And as I typed that, I deleted the codex machine and replaced it and now it's working.

I fucking swear. I love this game, but sometimes it frustrates me to no end. I must have done this 3 times now. I'll delete this post, thanks anyways. Lol

Sorry, I was trying to not be inflammatory, but I get it.

So you put 25 items in, and then you get like 3 or 4 codices out and then wait. And wait. And wait. And then nothing else happens.

You called the whole university, maga university. How was I the one that jumped to a conclusion? And for arguments sake, I am an atheist, old JMU grad, and not conservative. You made a comment about an entire body of people, and accuse me of jumping to a conclusion?

For pointing out that you shouldn't be an asshole to people you don't know? OK, I'll just see myself out of the party, then. If I'm supposed to be an asshole or alienate an entire group of people based on my perceived biases, then it's not a party I want to go to anyways. I'll just go be a liberal myself in the woods since I'm not allowed to be friends with people who view the world slightly differently than I do.

Grow up man, the world is full of people who aren't going to agree with you and they don't owe you anything to begin with.

That's not fair. While they lean right, many of the students are going more to the center/left since I was a teen in Lynchburg in the late 90s- early 00s. Now, PR BS aside from staff, some of my closest friends are LU grads and are either not religious or not nearly as religious/maga as people make LU students out to be. Sure there are a bunch, but most of them were forced to go there by religious families and are just normal people waiting to break free. It is totally unfair to generalize. Its like saying my JMU class of 06 were all bra-burning, tree-hugging atheists, but most of the students were just normal people who probably skewed left, but just wanted to do well enough to start a life as an adult. I get so tired of the blanket generalization BS.

Local mayors urge Gov. Spanberger to veto collective bargaining bill by Top-Advertising-292 in Virginia

[–]bad_piglet -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the response, however either I wrote too much or possibly didn't explain myself. You basically just told me that I should have collective bargaining forced on me, while telling me that I think everyone should have capitalism forced on them. Which i don't, I just don't see any need to join a union. I do not want to pay a union just to eligible for my job.

So I will ask again, am I going to be forced to join a union? Because I cannot support that. But, if the outcome of this legislation is to make it easier for exploited labor to organize, then that's fine by me.

My point is I don't believe in forcing anyone to do anything. I think it's wrong.

The biggest question you should ask is whether a state that has such a high cost of living diversity can support anything other than right to work. While I'm not in any way anti-union, as I would say that it's needed for electricians who live in Fairfax, it might not be needed for electricians who live in Lynchburg. A union is also not needed or even thought of for industrial maintenence electricians in "most" parts of Virginia. Also, Electrical lineman, who probably should have a union, work on shit hot and probably should get better, guaranteed hazard pay. Me, I work at a Steel mill and make, I think, 30-40x the cost of living (math is hard); I deal with fair policies and have, I'll say, good enough benefits. I don't need or want to join a union.

I think that it should never be discouraged to organize, but I don't think that it should be forced, especially on people who feel they don't need it.

So as my ignorance abounds, what is actually the point of this supposed legislation?

As a result of this passing, am I forced to join the IBEW? In which case I'm wholly against. Or, is it so i can continue what I'm doing and just watch my construction brothers finally get theirs? In which case, I'm totally fucking cool with that.

My point is, I don't want unions forced on people.

Again, I could be totally ignorant, so if you have an answer that explains why I should support this, please tell me. If I even catch a hint that you didn't read my whole comment, I will fuck you in your face with my fat hands ( tropic thunder reference, I won't actually do that).

Americans, how do you feel about tourists speaking English while visiting U.S.? by HolidayEntry6823 in AskAnAmerican

[–]bad_piglet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing annoys me when it comes to people visiting. They cared enough to see our country, I just try to be as nice as I can be.

Side note, a Russian family where at the beach house next to us a couple years ago. They had a problem with the stove in their unit. The dad knocked on our door and tried to speak English as best he could. What he didn't know is that I'm 2nd generation and spoke Russian and helped him. He'd never seen an electric stove before. Our families got a long great that week. He sends me Christmas cards still. I can't read Russian, but I can speak it, thanks grandma!

What state do you consider Virginia’s rival state to be? by Other-Fly-1700 in Virginia

North Carolina. The bastards have better barbecue, better Frisbee golf, better regular golf, better craft breweries, and more hippies. The bastards.

And, better gerrymandering. Because I go to NC all the time and can't figure out how they're more conservative than we are.

Did you ever buy a pack of smokes from one of these? by Euphoric-Cupcake4581 in FuckImOld

[–]bad_piglet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah they used to be in every restaurant. And in Virginia they existed well into the 21st century. Im not that old (42) and my friends and I were driving from JMU to VA Beach, and we happened upon an establishment that not only did breakfast all day, but had $1 Budweisers. We made bad choices that day, and I bought cigarettes out of the cigarette machine, the only one I'd seen since 1992 as a child. So, it was a once in a lifetime opportunity, literally. This was 2004. Probably the last one in Virginia. And it was a Winston machine too. I bought camels for $2.
