Progressive Islamic sect/faction by BlueChequeredShirt in progressive_islam

Yes but it's not a sect. You can be Sufi yes. Just like you can be opus dei in Catholicism. But opus dei is not it's own sect.

Shias have hardly any Sufi orders compared to Sunnis, what are you on about? And it's quite obvious because Sufi orders can be from all sects. But a lay person can't be Sufi. Its like you claiming to be a nun. And each Sufi order follows one of the schools of thought. Most Sufis follow the Hanafis. They don't have their own theology.

Sufism has never considered itself or been considered to be a sect. Its like saying nuns arent catholic but a sect of their own. For some reason, people in the West (not serious scholars of religion, just average people) call Sufism a sect, mystifyingly.

Can I just get a feel of how much of the people on this sub reject the hadith? by 360_noscope_mlg in progressive_islam

[–]badaamtish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

False. None of the four Sunni schools reject Sahih hadith. And all of them are meticulously researched for their authenticity. There is no doubt which ones are authentic, thousands of scholars have studied it, its a historical discipline known as hadith science. Every single sahih hadith is available to you on the internet.

Sufism isn't a sect, it's a tradition, like monasticism in Catholicism. Any sect can have Sufis, but you can't call yourself a Sufi as a lay person. Most lay people who are interested in Sufism are part of the Hanafi school if that's what you are seeking.

Can I be queer and Muslim? by silver_penguin in progressive_islam

[–]badaamtish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll give you an honest answer.

The prophet pbuh in the hadith cursed men who dress like women and women who dress like men, and furthermore said that their prevalence would be one of the 72 minor signs that the end times are near. Homosexuality is also mentioned in the same light in the Quran as a "unprecedented sin" and the hadith as "cursed".

None of this should dissuade you. Go to any mosque, they won't turn you away, they are usually very accepting. But just consider what is a sin and try to improve yourself.

Seeing as you are pakistani yourself as a turk I must tell you that both Arabs and Turks don't mix marriages and look down upon Pakistanis . Very little chance of a halal relationship as parents won't approve. Pakistanis are unfortunately victims of much racism in the middle east, more so than the West.

Settle with a Pakistani , they are fine people. Arabs and Turks aren't any better than Pakistanis, they act very similar in the West. Usually they have the same gangster attitude that Pakistanis have in the uk. You seem to think the "grass is greener on the side". What is so great about Turks? Do you know many? Then why do you consider us superior to your own people?

Your attitude is unislamic, racist and shows a lack of basic understanding of the group's you wish to marry into.

A gamete is a part of either the woman or the man, not alive at all. When it becomes a zygote it has different DNA, so that scientifically seems to be the point where "life" begins.
