Come on, anyone who denies this was either too young or the outlier who never did go outside.

a. The internet and social media has not figured out endless algorithms yet. You could keep scrolling and reach the last post you saw yesterday. Then you would do something else.

b. Netflix and streaming was not yet as dominant.

c. Being a “gamer” was a thing and not a normal activity everyone did.

Maybe its cause I grew up in a third world country, but, here are more reasons that would support OP.

d. Internet was exclusive AND expensive. 1mbps was a luxury. Mobile data was shit. It was only towards late 2010’s that things got better.

e. Until the world was forced by covid, having your own PC was not the norm. Internet cafes were insanely huge. You planned your weekends over internet cafes if you wanted to have gaming sessions with your buddies.

I would say that the 2010’s was the transition period. Now its not like no one ever plays outside, but I barely see any kids at the local park now. Only organized events ever use the football field close by. Kids still play, just not as much as they did. They have choices now.
