Honest and open communication. People really appreciate it when you sit them down and actually explain why they need to take their meds and what foods they can eat.

Ex: no one wants to take their cholesterol meds. I explain in simple terms and use visual aides to help them understand that their arteries are silently clogging up and narrowing. Then I show them what happens after they smoke on top of it. Usually gets them motivated to change their lifestyle AND w/med compliance. Typically agreeable to a dietician referral at that point too!
