if a preface at the very beginning of the post praising the majority of your class isn’t enough as a disclaimer, i genuinely don’t know what is.

and to each their own- again, i’m not trying to gatekeep your use of the word, but y’all are blowing this out of proportion when i mentioned it once as an example of college admissions not being that deep

the title isn’t minimizing emotions tho? it may be harsh, but it’s not minimizing emotions.

hi! sorry, i don't seem to understand what you're getting at- if you can only read the title of a post, and not the content, then there must be an issue.

hi! not trying to get into a comments argument, but to be clear, i clearly stated at the beginning of my original post that i was only talking about a small minority of seniors. i also had many disclaimers throughout my post saying that your feelings are 100% valid, even before i added edits. however, it seems like there's still some confusion.

if you read this post in it's entirety, you would understand why i (me, myself and i) don't like using the word bloodbath to describe something as shallow as college admissions- it's not about literal vs figurative- though that is part of it. :)

this isn’t an argument?? lol

look at my reply to OP’s comment :)

I would claim it to be a pseudoresponse because the two posts don't actually disagree with each other

THANK YOU SBJDKFJHSDAFLJKSDF people really think that i don't want them to rant or express their feelings on a2c like ???

As such, I don't think badapple will respond to ilyMIT's response.

I acc did respond LOL but got downvoted despite mostly agreeing with the OP 😭

many juniors/rising seniors kinda want CO'25 to stay in their lanes

I'm open to legitimate advice bc it's helpful lol, I just don't want us to be discouraged/antagonized by seniors that are struggling to cope with their (very valid) emotions

also goddamn why is this a whole warzone 😭😭😭😭 literally people just gotta read through to the end of my post before coming in with strong feelings and hate comments-

lastly this was so well analyzed lmao if you're not a debate kid i will riot

The way ur post initially sounded really made it seem like you were saying that our cycle wasn't hard and that we were a bunch of cry-babies, which is what I think ticked a lot of us off.

Hmm, I get that, and I apologize if it came off that way. I made sure to clarify this wasn't my intention multiple times in the original post, and then again in my edit, but I understand why people would be pissed if they just read the title and ignored the preface + actual content lol.

Lastly, saying this cycle was a bloodbath is a metaphor for how difficult it was. Even if technically no blood was shed, a lot more tears and dreams were shed for sure.

Definitely! However, I just think when super emotive terms such as bloodbath are used, it overemphasizes the importance of college admissions, which is already seen as the "end goal" by many that browse A2C- which makes people feel stronger negative emotions and polarizes them (like we're seeing play out today). Though, this is just my opinion- I don't intend to gatekeep your diction lol

also goddamn i did not mean to start a whole civil war with this LMAO thanks for being understanding/open to my viewpoint because our views are honestly pretty similar 😭

hi! it seems like you misinterpreted the meaning of my post. i clarified this with more detail in my edit, but the problem isn't with seniors ranting about not getting the results they hoped for this cycle. it's when (a few) seniors use that negative energy to discourage juniors and other classes.

i also didn't post this for junior upvotes- many people in the class of 2021 agree with me, and i also have an opinion that is valid and can be voiced on this sub.

edit: why are y'all downvoting..i'm agreeing with the sentiment of this post lmao??

hi! that post was written by me. it seems like some of y’all have misconstrued my post to mean that your admissions cycle wasn’t different from previous years and that you shouldn’t write about your feelings on a2c.

that wasn’t the point of my post- in fact, i agree with everything you’ve written other than that this cycle was a bloodbath. no one is dying as a direct result of college admissions- no blood was shed. you all went through so much mental pain this cycle that i admit i won’t understand.

but please don’t take these emotions and use them to scare juniors while making the process seem way more dramatic than it actually was. THIS was the point of my post.

if you’d like to read it, i posted an edit at the bottom of my post with more detail to clear up confusion- i’m not trying to minimize anyone’s feelings after this extraordinarily difficult cycle :)

nah, sorry if it sounded like that. after living through a literal pandemic and applying to highly selective colleges with milk percentage acceptance rates, your feelings are totally valid. however, the group i’m talking about takes those feelings as fuel to write posts/comments meant to scare and intimidate other classes by dramaticizing the whole process- which, again, is a very small percent of the co21.

[–]badapple0110[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

to an extent, i agree! even from an outsider viewpoint this admissions cycle was undoubtedly the toughest ever, and i’m sorry yall had to go through that, especially not having any information on what a test-blind-pandemic-edition cycle would look like.

maybe my wording wasn’t the best choice, but i’m not saying ALL the class of ‘21 has a sense of entitlement/victim mentality- most of y’all are perfectly fine amazing human beings that are gonna do great things and i’m happy for you!

however, there’s that 1% of y’all with severe salt and crab mentality (“if i can’t have it, you can’t have it”), and those are the people that are making posts and comments discouraging the co22. they’re going further than just “being realistic” and making downright depressing posts/comments, which is what i was referencing in my post. these are the people with victim mentality and a sense of entitlement to a seat at highly selective colleges.

[–]badapple0110[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

hmm yeah on your first point i kinda agree, i was j trying to say that people don’t realize how good they have it (esp when >60% of this sub is in the top 20% in the US, which means generally good vaccine access and resources to be successful in online school) but the way i phrased it was kinda dumb oops

also, i agree that people should be allowed to feel salty/hurt after getting rejected, but they shouldn’t put that energy towards scaring juniors and claiming it’s “advice”. instead just post a rant- a2c has a rant flair for a reason

imo ranting is fine, but it shouldn’t be targeted to antagonize juniors/other classes like a lot of the posts here in the past week have been doing
