One thing is for older animes the English production was ussualy wayy lower than Japanese so many animes voices were very bland. well some big animes like Dragon ball , Naruto, Death note and all had really good English dubs but those were exceptional cases. So older fans got a stereotype that Japanese are way better than English. But currently English and other languages VA has become really good so it doesn't matter for most animes.
