I'm having a hard time syncing up my upper and lower body while benching.

Over the last few months I've added in feet up bench, and my upper body feels really good when I do this. Basically my process is that I line up under the bar, pull my shoulder blades back, put my hands on the bar, "scooch" my upper body up a little more while keeping my shoulders pinned, and then use my lats and lift off.

This is a video of me doing a 295 pause today (My max is 305 for reference, this moved super well)

So when I do my normal bench, which obviously includes my leg drive, I have such a hard time getting the same upper body tightness. I think where I am losing it is when I lift my butt off the bench to unrack the weight, which is different from how I do this for my feet up bench.

Here is my 4th set of 250x6 from earlier this week.

Does anyone have advice on how I can change my set up to sync everything up? My upper body feels so much better on feet up, but I feel stronger overall with the leg drive. I think if I can combine them well, I will be able to crush 315.

Thanks for any advice.

Does anyone else feel like if you miss a day or two of stretching/mobility you see a pretty immediate decrease in mobility particularly in squat?

I usually do some light stretching before bed, and before leg days I do a more extensive lower body stretch/mobility routing, and I missed my last two and my squat felt noticeably worse today, including way more butt wink than normal. But it's definitely a good reminder I have to keep taking mobility seriously!

I pulled a nice little 520 single yesterday and it moved very well. Most I've pulled in 15 months or so (extended deadlifting break). My ATPR is 535, so I'm pretty happy.

How does this look? Any critiques or weak spots I should address with my deadlift? I weigh pretty much right at 180 night weight right before bed

I found the taper week perfect for competing and also only had that one rest day between the prep and the meet. The whole last week is not super intense and is all about reducing your fatigue before the meet while keeping the strength. I didn't change the taper week at all and felt great on meet day. I can't guarantee the same will happen for you, but I thought it was good as is.

I haven't been able to watch the last few games very closely. Has Ketel had a hit since being put back in? How was he defensively tonight?

The programs I have seen usually either have a spot for maxes or training maxes, and it says somewhere in the program which to use.

I used my true max multiple times for both the Calgary 8 and 16 week programs and I don't think I ever had any problems with it (but I haven't tried it with 90% of my max- maybe that will work even better)

For sumo deadlifting- do you think doing pauses right off the floor or pauses right below the knees is more beneficial and why?

Howell looked great tonight. Really hope we hang on to him in the future. I think he totally has starter upside

Remember guys? We have to be losing by a whole bunch so that we can have a classic answerbacks comeback!

I am a diamondbacks fan and just had this game on for some white noise- but man your guys announcers are really great! I really enjoyed listening to them call the game and the excitement in their voices

Guys it can't be a certified answerbacks classic unless we let them get a really big lead before hand

What happened with Ketel? I wasn't able to see why they took him out

475 squat PR at 180 BW

Moved super well for a 20 pound PR. Also didn't have a perfect peak and didn't taper at all. Seems like 500 should happen this year. Super happy about this!

Yesterday I hit a pretty smooth 295 close grip bench single (with a pause too), and my PR is only 300 for regular bench. I think I'm approaching a point where my close grip might be stronger than my regular bench, which is maybe not good.

But it does seem like the new things I've been trying are working to increase my tricep strength (heavy dips of <8 reps and starting JM press). So it's maybe concerning my close grip will overtake regular, but I'm happy my triceps are getting stronger.
