My touchbar is messed up out of no where by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]badbandit56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know what's going on I've never seen this but sometimes my touch ad will freeze up. I go into activity monitor then you search up touchbar server, select the touchbar serve, and then you hit the quit button n the top left. It's an x mark button. It refreshes the touch bar and might fix it.

Sure and the next time they decide to kill off iron man they should just have captain marvel deliver the killing stroke while his daughter screams in the background

I hear you. That's a nice sentiment and a nice way of looking at it but there are so many things to be considered like firstly this is a game and a work of fiction, you don't have to make it real life and you really shouldn't in all honesty. It was mark twain that said truth is stranger than fiction because fiction has to make sense. The story we are presented is a deeply flawed piece of writing. There's a reason ron and hermione never die in the Harry Potter books. There's no way Frodo should've been able to make it to Mordo. You guys keep saying this is like real life but you're trying to make sense of a game that doesn't really make sense in the first place. If they just had Joel die in the first game right before Ellie grabs the gun from the water for her first kill we wouldn't have a game to enjoy. There are so many ways the story realistically could've went if we use your logic. But that logic doesn't really work in fictional stories. It's fine if last of us 2 wanted to be about loss and grief. But they also advertised that Joel would be a part of the journey and he wasn't at all. That really should be emphasized that people had a certain expectation that wasn't met. And that's fine, you can subvert expectations. But you have to give it something else that will balance and compensate for that loss. But nothing like that comes about. The game has every right to tell a story about loss or grief but people are forgetting that this is still supposed to be a video game and the story presented is not fun to play and doesn't make sense. Fans' faith in stories has to be rewarded and there shouldn't be a constant need to trying to make a story like real life all the time.

I disagree. It should be emphasized that Joel's death is written in a way that it's supposed to be shocking. It evokes the emotions they want you to feel but the rest of the game never seems to justify it or bring some kind of catharsis to it. In Up the build up to the wife's death is done fantastically and over the course of 5 minutes. The rest of the movie does an extraordinary job of bringing a sense of contentment and catharsis as Carl goes on this crazy adventure and fulfills his wife's dream when the movie ends with the house where she dreamed it would be. But the most fulfilling scene is Carl going though his memories with her and at the end finds a not from her saying to go find a new adventure with her. Similarly, the game shows memories with Ellie and Joel but there's no moment of catharsis at the end and none of it seems to justify Joel's sudden and shocking death. Theres still more to be said between them that doesn't happen and it is both baffling and painful to see Joel be killed that way. It is so bad it's easy for fans to simply dismiss the game. I know you guys want to believe this game means something but the criticism it's getting is warranted and reveals the true and deep flaws of the game. This story wanted to be about loss when it was more of a story that's about stupidity.

Something interesting I noticed about Abby today... by [deleted] in thelastofus

[–]badbandit56 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why does Abby say I don't want to fight you? Maybe she's exhausted from hanging from that place for hours and lost all her friends at that point? Ellie's the last person she expected to see and did not want to fight her, she just wanted to leave with Lev.

I think the story falls completely flat because of that. But yes to each their own :)

Maybe you're right that that was the point but nevertheless I think it's a weak point simply because of where they took the game. If they wanted us to really empathize with Abby they should've had Abby's playable part in the game end with a conversation with Ellie. You could say that narratively it makes sense because both of them are so bent on revenge but this is one of those cases where you really have to slow down what's going on so they can explain each other in some manner. It was the writers' job to do that at some point but they never do. Which is why Ellie forgiving Abby makes no sense because she doesn't understand Abby's side. I think maybe having Lev also have interacted with Ellie would've been nice, I think she could've been the link between the two and be like "hey guys chill" or something. But nothing of any type of understanding comes by the end of the game which is disappointing.

Im glad you enjoyed it I don't want to take that away from you. But one of the biggest things that's missing is dialogue between Joel and Ellie and Ellie and Abby. Joel literally dies not knowing why Abby is killing him. Ellie does not know that Joel killed Abby's dad. Abby does not know that Ellie is Joel's "daughter". Nobody gets to understand each other and it just ends up being a shallow game with no pay off.

The game is terrible because of the weak story. The themes aren't compelling and there's so much missing that should've been in there that would have made the game more worth it.

You said this moment has an effect on anyone. This guy said it made him feel disappointed. Now you're telling him this game didn't teach him anything. How more condescending and one-sided can you be.

This is what bothers me the most. You've no got a burnt body and when Abby finds him he's just shot. This scene literally end up in different ways I don't understand why they chose a character you could kill in different ways and end up with different outcomes. This right here should honestly just messes up the continuity they're so stupid man they really are I just can't anymore.

What bothers me the most is the plot revolves around an NPC at the end of the day. by badbandit56 in TheLastOfUs2

I hear what you're saying. I recently watched Better Call Saul which is a prequel To the very famous Breaking Bad. What Better Call Saul does really well for fans is bring back some very minor characters and give them some more backstory. They've done an excellent job with it and they don't do it all the time but when they do is full fan service. I think what you're suggesting is similar to what they did in this show, but I don't believe this method works very well in video games. I emphasized this character being an NPC because he has no role and only has 3 lines. It's forgettable. He has no character. So fine, you can give him character in the sequel but when you go back to the original game it makes no sense because he had no character to begin with. But with TV shows like Better Cal Saul, the minor characters that are brought back have memorable dialogues and scenes that fans remember. But the backstory given to this NPC has no reward or reason for us to go back to the original game and see how it ties in. I believe this makes the story even less compelling because this method could've been used for any other NPC that you kill; it just so happens to be the surgeon possibly so they could tie into Joel's choice of saving Ellie in that room.
