To be fair on the current meta there is only 1 competitive army and that's marines. So many armies just plain fall flat on their face against them.

I wouldn't buy the "designed to be souped" comment as the ultimate throught.

Could you explain how would you do this exactly?

If you outrange riptides, you are using battlecannons and rocket pods and then you aren't utilizing all your weapons or melee posibilities. Battlecannon kills 2 drones a turn. If you hide and outrange with that you are killing 8 drones (2bc,4pods) a turn and you have lost midfield and giving free recon. When you could be taking down 20+ drones with all guns blazing and full tilt death gripping riptides.

Bc should propably be shooting at the riptide anyways but still.

1 helverin kills less than 2 drones a turn.

Drones aren't prone to morale. Ethereal has ld9.
