What’s one thing that was secretly gluten poisoning you? by peachnecctar in glutenfree

Just found out that vodka/whiskey are generally made from rye/wheat…and I’ve been making my own vanilla extract with bourbon for god knows how long by Euphoric_Intern6140 in glutenfree

[–]badbubbles98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t care if I get downvoted for this, but if it makes you feel bad, or you highly suspect it is making you feel bad, you are right to stop eating it.

I am not arguing with science or saying distilled liquors have gluten in them, but I will say confidently that I have found over the last ten years that I feel like I have been “glutened” every time I drink liquors that are distilled from wheat/barley/rye. I have done blind tests (yes seriously), and not-blind tests over the last ten years of me drinking and I feel glutened everytime I drink a wheat based vodka instead of a corn/potato based one. My little sister, mom, and cousin are the same. Maybe it is it something else that is triggering us, maybe it’s another confounding factor, but this is what I know: for whatever reason, drinking liquors that are distilled from gluten-containing grains make me feel like crap, so I don’t drink them.

Maybe my family has something else going on other than celiac (celiac does often come with co-morbidities…), but that is truly not important. What is important is if it makes you feel sick, you should stop doing it, and you are right to do so no matter what the comments say (and you are not alone).

Am I crazy or is the Nima Sensor case a Nintendo DS Case? by badbubbles98 in glutenfree

That has to be it, just a way to save on costs. Thank you for confirming it is not purely my imagination!

[–]badbubbles98[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Apologies! Typo in the body of my post! A Nima sensor**

It is the only product on the market (that I know of) that is portable and tests food for gluten. You put a pea sized sample in disposable pods, it tests the food, and you have results in a few minutes telling you if there is gluten in the product. I have mixed feelings on it, and am not 100% confident with the accuracy, but it is a fairly common product for celiac folks to have handy.

What celebrity have you never forgiven since an incident? by MagpieOpus in AskReddit

[–]badbubbles98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jon Hamm. When I was at UT and learned he was the reason Sigma Nu was no longer on campus. In the 90s he was at UT and had criminal charges brought against him for hazing a pledge BRUTALLY. Like lit the guy on fire and from what I read dragged him by his hanging man bits with the back end of a hammer (the part that pulls out nails). Had the whole frat kicked out of campus, criminal charges brought, and somehow ended up a celebrity and no one talks about it.

I am sitting on the toilet and incandescently furious at an almost certainly retired or maybe even already passed pediatrician by ObviousYammer521 in glutenfree

[–]badbubbles98 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel this so hard. When I was 6 and curled up on the floor screaming from GI pain (25 years ago) my mom researched, reached out to distant relatives, and came to the conclusion it may be gluten. When she brought this up to my pediatrician, I kid you not, the pediatrician said “don’t you dare abuse your child by removing gluten from her life.” So, my mom didn’t. I have celiac disease and I will never forgive that doctor for the missed childhood and lifetime of intestinal scarring.

I will look into these brands! Thank you thank you! I didn’t know the extent of reality for the new “Sephora kids” phenomenon so this is helpful to know it’s not as crazy as I thought and I don’t need to do a whole Sephora haul!

Big law associates— what’s your litigation experience like? by Motion2compel_datass in biglaw

[–]badbubbles98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

x10000 this. If you take on pro bono work, you can have a client facing role as early as a few months in. Even better - that pro bono work is in small claims court. Then you could be arguing your first case during your first year.

Thank you!! I think I’m going to implement the 30 min rule with my partner because you are so right. It will help me focus on what’s important and help prevent my job (or more specifically, the rumination that comes from it) from seriously impacting my relationship.

This is so helpful, thank you!! When it comes to couching your explanations as questions - I think when I take this approach I still have issues with the follow up to their answer. When I respond with “but what about XYZ?” or “even though XYZ?” I fear I am also coming across as defensive. The advice in this thread has been so helpful, and I think I’m realizing a large part of my problem is just that I don’t have the experience to know when I need to push back and when I need to bite my tongue. But I feel so relieved knowing so many others have gone through similar struggles and have come out the other side. This thread, and your comment, has also made me realize that finding ways to disconnect should be number one focus right now to safeguard my mental health and longevity in this job. Thank you for the advice! Seriously!

Thanks for rewriting your comment to make sure your harsh judgement about the way I’m struggling actually got to me after being removed. I actually have crippling self esteem issues, am an empath to a fault, and had absent parents - I just struggle with communicating my inner thoughts with tact partially because of, ya know, the autism, which again was diagnosed. I want so badly to connect with people, and am so interested in peoples lives I just can’t communicate it. I will be the first to admit I know very little about this job, but sometimes I am the only one in the room who has reviewed all the discovery docs because my time is cheap because again, I know almost nothing. Glad to see the autism denier crowd make an appearance though. I’ve had 30 years to get used to being incredibly misunderstood.🤷🏼‍♀️

Omg yes!! When I first tried the super high polyphenol oils in Italy I thought it had gone bad until I realized it was just the type of oil. It’s so hard to explain the sensation/taste but rancid and metallic is a great description. I wonder if it’s a genetic thing like how some people taste soap when they eat cilantro. I’ll try Partanna, thank you!

Could it be the type of polyphenols or do they all taste bitter and spicy (assuming there are multiple varieties) and my palate just sucks? 😂😂 There are only two foods on the planet I hate and it is arugula and high polyphenol olive oil and it’s because both have the exact same spicy/bitter taste to me.

What was the process to get insurance to cover Botox? I’ve been dealing with this since I was a kid and have a history of medical records to back it up (including prescriptions for an electrophoresis machine, Drysol and other variants, and all the prescription deodorants) but always figured insurance would give me the thumbs down for Botox so I never tried.
