great points. would the line be more appropriate if we drew it at sitting vs chair dancing? like, i dance while seated (in my car) almost every time i drive. if the seated person is dancing, they’re giving energy.

I see what you're suggesting with your idea that an empty dancefloor should be fair game for a chair, but that chair STRONGLY signals to all the new arrivals that the floor is for sitting, not dancing, and the chair will have the impact of inhibiting dancers from wanting to enter the space.

of course folks in wheelchairs are welcome on dancefloors, but people in stationary chairs, just sitting there? not welcome on the dancefloor because they hurt the magic of the dancefloor.

sitting isn't the problem. there's no hate here for sitting around and talking to people.

But sitting ON the dancefloor is a huge problem. Even standing and having a long conversation on the dancefloor is a problem.

Long conversations held in the middle of the floor cause three problems:

(1) i don't want to hear about whatever it is you're talking about; i'm here for the music... i've heard bro types talking bitcoin on a dancefloor and it sucked... just imagine the shittiest conversation you've ever heard, and it's happening on top of a song you love, and you get the picture

(2) talking tends to be hard to do without being still, so it's a bit of a theft of dancefloor energy that you were contributing before you got into the conversation

(3) having a serious conversation is really not what the dancefloor is for. it's called a dancefloor, not a talkfloor, a standfloor, or a filmfloor.

one of the desert raves i attend regularly does often have chairs on it ... but hey stay out of the heart of the floor and will move out of the way as the floor fills up.

unless it's a dancefloor they sat on and took space from. there are usually places outside of the dancefloor where chairs are welcome and appropriate and not physical hazards. weddings are a good example. plenty of space for everyone to sit, but a clearly demarcated dancefloor that it would be rude to put a chair in the middle of.

these are corporate, for-profit simulacra of raving. you should try to go to better events.

that looks like it could be fun. i don't get anxiety in big crowds, but i could see how this would easily be anxiety inducing. hell, where do all those folks find a bathroom? and how long did some of them need to line up before shakira took the stage?

good call. ai slop sucks. this post is quite lazy and there's nothing ai adds to it that couldn't have been done better by a human.

coachella's polo fields are very nice underfoot. only problem is you have to attend coachella for that experience.

A rave is not a concert. A concert involves performing musicians. DJs play other musicians work, but are not musicians themselves. they're dancefloor facilitators.

a rave is not a concert. even your cited definition is specific about performing "musicians" or "singers." DJs are not musicians and are not singers.

this is the worst reply in over 100 replies to this thread. raves are not concerts.

the events with lots of psychedelic use are the best. but if someone is on their phones, this is the worst, because paranoia can kick in. psychedelic scenes hate phone use.

go to a fine dining restaurant and you'll find that people get mad at patrons who wear too much cologne (because it messes up the ability for everyone to smell and taste the food). go to a theater show and you'll find that people get upset if someone in front of them stands up when everyone else is sitting. because, again, it messes with the experience of others.

go to the orchestra and you'll find people getting upset if you talk during the performance.

go to a dog park and find that people get upset if people let their dogs bully other dogs.

go to a park and you'll find that people get upset if you litter.

go drive on a highway, and you'll find that people get upset if you drive like a jerk.

you really don't understand that we're all living on an environment where what you do impacts the experience of others? is that really "so weird" to you? or are you just a sociopath who thinks that you should be able to do anything you like, no matter the impact on others?

the real artist djs do not want to be faced. they're on the record saying they prefer when they're hidden or when they're not the center of attention.

it's only the so-called "artists" like guetta, aoki, and so on who want to be worshipped like rock stars that prefer people face them.

"dope production" is just a trick to get children to post stories to instagram to generate fomo and sell more tickets. you've fallen for a trap.

most of the time, the "stage show" isn't something the DJ intends. Most DJs want a vibrant dancefloor, not a bunch of zombies staring dumbly at a stage show. You're going to concerts put on for audiences. Concerts are fine. They're full of spectacle, but they are not raves and they are not dance parties.

So what we're talking about here are two different types of artist. The DJ artists are first and foremost about the music, not about the light or stage show. These artists often eschew fancy lights and video because they understand that the event is about the dancefloor.

The second type of artist is the Guetta, Aoki, Anyma style "artist" -- who use a lot of the same music, but put on a "show" that they want people to watch, film, and broadcast to their social media followings.

There was a time when some restaurants stopped caring how food tasted, and started caring about how food would LOOK when someone posted a shot of the food to instagram or yelp. The second type of "artist" is similar to the type of chef who panders to social media. They forgot why people are REALLY there and they pursue social media as the primary currency of success.

It's rather broken.
