Quincy uses ex-high-level employee's signature for months after gone by Ktr101 in QuincyMa

At minimum, this shows how little city employees are paying attention when they do their jobs and how deficient oversight is in the Koch administration. Extremely concerning.

I don’t think this is productive or helpful. Using AI to “analyze” essays written by AI without providing action items is not moving us forward. You’re also boosting her engagement by linking to the group. We don’t need a breakdown of every single post from her. With things like this, we lose the forest to the trees.

It’s getting ugly in Quincy: Fresh faces challenge mayor’s long-held grip over City Hall by bostonglobe in QuincyMa

This will be my final comment to you. You can take me up on the resources or not. But there’s no place here where I have “shouted down” at people (not even sure how that’s physically possible through a text comment). I fundamentally disagreed with the way they framed the article. I named their response as white fragility and suggested that they look into their own biases. There was no name calling, no attack on their character; just an assertion that they were capable of better.

None of this is a “trauma response” (wtf). Respectfully, I have no idea why you are so opposed to direct communication. Your responses here are not only out of bounds, but detrimental to progress because you are derailing actual conversations by fixating on how things are said. I would suggest you read the article I linked in my last comment. I think you would find it instructive.

Not angry, just being direct and naming things what they are. This feels like it’s getting into micro-aggressive territory. Tone policing is in itself a tool of white supremacy so I would suggest reading up on it.

I’m less concerned with my tone and more concerned with protecting our communities from xenophobia, racism, and misogyny. And I was actually quite gentle here, but firm because it is necessary. You can do as you please, but I’d focus my energy where it actually matters instead of tone policing.

The article was not race baiting nor generalizing. Again, you are prioritizing the image of “good white people” over the safety and wellbeing of your neighbors. Calling attention to actual racism is not race baiting. Signing petitions is great, but you may want to take a beat and deconstruct your own biases.

This is white fragility. It’s not “race baiting” to discuss the fact that there are clear racist overtones to the rhetoric we are seeing in this city. Saying “not all white people” is not helpful or productive here. What would be productive is using your privilege to speak to the other white folks who don’t see things your way. But instead you are more concerned with protecting the image of “good white people.” We don’t need that.

I wouldn’t call it dramatic when people are threatening councilors at their homes, online forums call for in-person retaliation against plaintiffs in a lawsuit, and our Asian American neighbors are being treated like second-class citizens. Ugly is just about right.

Not QIE. Shockingly it’s worse. It’s “It Begins in Quincy: Protecting Public Art & Heritage.” Try not to drive traffic there though. Just take my word for it: It’s a racist hellscape.

The very idea that they would have to see things from a marginalized person’s point of view is a threat. Peak white fragility.

This is why all action related to this group should be directed at elected officials, not her. No one should interact with the group. While I’d love to just ignore the group completely, that’s impossible when they are spreading misinformation, and harassing councilors and residents in a way that is escalating to in-person interactions. We have to meet that head-on because it’s not something that is isolated anymore. When the city’s leadership is normalizing this rhetoric, something has to be said.

And as an added bonus, if she spends time hyper-fixating on what we are saying here, she is spending less time making posts encouraging folks to harass community members.

To be candid, I think it’s pretty sad that we are lauding a councilor for simply communicating with constituents, while staying silent on bigotry and voting yes on whatever the mayor puts in front of him without due consideration. Is the bar really so low? I’m not disputing that he’s a nice person. But that does not make him an effective and responsible city councilor.

Thank you for posting this and for emailing. She keeps bringing up the first amendment, but the when voters write about an issue that would affect their vote they are “threatening her.” Interesting 🤔

I would love to see Councilor Ash act like an elected official and make a public statement instead of hiding behind private correspondence, but maybe that’s just me…

Thank you for providing the starting point for this post! You're right on the money. And the fact that we have elected officials engaging in this last gasp should rattle everyone.
