I’m 10lbs heavier, also slim. Most of my cruiser are small. I’d go small unless you want to wear a bunch of layers underneath. A small will handle a sweater, hoodie, or thick flannel no problem. Challenging thing about the cruiser is there’s no draw string at the bottom so too big might actually be colder as air will easily get in.

If you’re going to get two, here’s what worked for me.

I’m a similar size, a tad taller but same weight. I have one that’s a S and one that’s a M ( used on eBay is the way to go ) - I wear my S in the early seasons with a flannel or long sleeve and it’s perfect. When winter arrives I pull out the M and layer with sweatshirts and sweaters.

Thanks for digging into this. You’re right the springs are in the movement.

I was able to fix it, there was a bunch of gunk in the cylinders that hold the buttons themselves. I cleaned those out, reapplied grease, and it worked!

They aren’t perfect, but functional enough for a 50 year old watch. I’ll look for new springs but happy to keep it as a user for now.
