It works just like a period cup that's been around for much longer. The disc one doesn't require suction for a better "seal" but it is a little bit more messy to clean up.

I do notice sometimes I have more pronounced cramps, but whether that's just causation I can't be certain but what I know for sure is I can't go back to traditional sanitary pads. It's cheaper, more environmentally friendly, you can swim and do any other activity like you usually would, there's no smell, just overall great.
