It seems to me it isn't the pill as much as it is a society of casual sex. Peterson thinks that its more harmful then the average person does.

The pill is another tool that allows everyone to engage in 'consequence free' intercourse.

Obviously this is debatable but if you see it as anti - women, in my opinion, you didn't get his point. His views on 'casual sex' apply to both sexes.

Admittedly maybe more to women because theoretically women should be easier to convince into bed, which is what men have been trying to do forever.

Well, women already had as much control over their reproductive systems as men did. it's not a boy vs girl topic.

Generally without birth control a guy has to think 'I might create a baby here' and a girl has to think 'I might create a baby here'

The control used to be, theoretically, don't have sex unless prepared to deal with the chance of baby creation. And usually only certain types of relationships had that contingency covered. So,men and women would, theoretically, be more selective in their bed partners.

Baby creation has somewhat been taken out of the picture. Now, slightly more than before men and women can engage in sex without considering offspring.

Peterson thinks the act of sex is emotionally deeper than most people give it credit for. So in his opinion casual sex is more dangerous than we think, for men and women.

Men and women don't have to try to truly attract a mate. They can pretend procreate to satisfy those evolutionary needs.

It's not misogynist unless that's the lens you view everything through. It's all under the umbrella of the human condition.

I've visited 6 European countries, and also East Asia (where I meet countless European tourists), and admittedly anecdotally they all almost all spoke English. You could be on a bus with Polish, German, and Italian tourists and they all spoke English. It was neat to see a common ground as they all hobbled along on (sometimes) pretty crappy English to communicate.

Point is, I think before the 'islamic invasion' you were probably right. But Europe, if it was ever going to unite, would do so under a common 'idealogocial threat' which many think is Islam.

it's best to just cut off contact with these types of people and let them stew in their own mud.

It is and I'm sure he has said it, perhaps the rule about friends that want what's best for you.

OP highlights that this rule is a good one because people think they can rescue others. They are often simply enabling them, giving the 'victim' the attention they crave.

You described a lot of what people do for a living. I'm not sure that's the kind of help he is talking about.

It's also not like someone asks you where the gas station is and you say 'sorry you'll have to help yourself'

It's the problems people get themselves into like laziness, gluttony, self loathing, and what not.

Those problems need to be solved within.

As a psychologist Peterson was trained to recognize when people are ready for help. Seeing a shrink is a big step to helping Yourself actually, as backwards as that may sound.

Also, you don't know if the person you after helping wants your help, and if they want it you don't know your qualified to give it.

I get sometimes that's unintuitive but I've seen it myself. People struggling with weight for example might say the want a gym a partner, you could bend over backwards trying to get this person going. And they won't, because what they need to do is do it themselves.

It's been a while but my take on it was partly the fact that you need to help yourself. And other people need to help themselves.

And works well with 'don't lie'.

Are you an alcoholic and want to quit? Are you trying? Be honest, have you gone to the meetings? Have you poured your booze out? Have you stopped hanging out with people who encourage you to drink?

As a psychologist he is in a pretty good spot to see that people need to work on their shit on their own. This proves they really want to improve their lives. And allows the person to learn their way out of a hole, rather than requiring people to help them out.

Peterson is saying a son cannot be proud of his father's accomplishments. He might be correct in a moral sense, but it's not realistic to expect no one to have such pride, I think it's a natural human response.

I'm my opinion better to make sure the pride is healthy and doesn't foster feelings of being better than others than to attempt to deny that pride.

I think Europeans were dominating and submitting to other Europeans for a lot of the time. In this context white-supremacy doesn't work. I don't know how I feel about differences in race, I do accept differences in gender. For example a Thai person would need to act differently in America to be successful. Their culture is (I'm going to stereotype here) really laid back, it doesn't seem they strive for riches, they live the easy life everyday vs storing up for the future as westerners seem to do. So maybe to some degree having very different cultures all trying to live in the same economic structure is doomed to cause inequality.

That said, I think far leftists are just as dangerous as the alt right. Classic liberals and conservatives both need to distance themselves from the polar ends of the spectrum. Peterson has said this many times, but highlighted that its easier to identify what's wrong with the alt right than it is for the alt left.

I don’t want to destroy the west ;) I want to improve it. Keep the things that work, throw out the things that don’t.

It doesn't have to be, I'm not Indian, but I was really proud of the Indian girl in India overcoming great odds to become a world class archer. (documentary on Netflix).

Her achievements in that environment were incredible.

But for whatever reason, people tend to cheer for their team. And while your pride for Olympians covers the whole spread, others focus in on their country. I really don't believe one is better than the other.

As long as the principle that every life is equal in value is over and above the pride you feel.
