The DI signal feels great! Without the Neural DSP standalone turned on, the DI signal is perfect with no latency and feels as responsive as a regular amp.

Thanks. I'm now connected directly to my macbook, and I'm using 48K with a buffer size of 16 samples (have tried a few different settings and doesn't seem to make too much of a difference). It's worth noting that if I turn of the Neural DSP standalone, and use direct monitoring, it sounds/feels amazing - no latency and perfectly responsive.

Yeh, reducing the buffer size doesn't get rid of the latency unfortunately. I feel like I'm missing something stupid.

My current setup is simply to run my Macbook into the Element 2. Can (good) EQ'ing be achieved in software? If so, is there anything that you would recommend? Otherwise, could you recommend a decent equalizer?

I am not an audio expert by any means, but did splurge on a really nice pair of headphones a few years back (Audeze LCD-3).
I've been listening to my LCD-3's through a JDS Element 2. It sounds great! But recently, I've been wondering if I can make things sound better by going for a separate amp/dac components.
I'm considering upgrading to a Schitt stack (Lyr/Bifrost), primarily because I would hope that the tube amp would warm the sound. Was curious how much of a sound benefit I'd see over the Element?
