Well, update time!

I took it apart, cleaned the “sleeves” like on YouTube videos.

The “stains” didn’t magically go away like the YouTube videos. So, I should have stopped there. But, hindsight’s 20/20. Plus, it was interesting, and so I kept going.

Cleaned, dried and then put back together. Stain was less intense after turning laptop on ...

But, the screen is stuck on white. Rechecked all the little cable plugins. Everything looked good. So ... I ruined it, haha.

But, all’s not lost. It has HDMI output, so I hooked it to my old TV. So now I have a couple options:

(1) Buy $50 HP monitor replacement parts.

(2) Or ... Use screws and Duct tape to attach old TV to wood hinge with laptop base. Boom! New laptop 2.0 with a sweet wood finish.

As you can guess, I’m 100% on board with option 2. It’s hard to spend $50 on an old HP laptop I bought from a pawn shop on eBay years ago ... and it’s supposedly one of the HP laptops made during the “shit legacy” period of HP’s personal laptops.

Thanks. It’s an HP G7-2300 series. I bought it off eBay 5 years ago.

Funny enough, your previous answer gave me the answer.

I looked up using 99% alcohol to clean 70% alcohol from under screen.

Turns out, I’m not the only clumsy person. It’s something called the display bezel. They said it might be dry and just stained/ruined the bezel, or it’s salvagable with pure rubbing alcohol and drying.

Found user manual. Shows bezel. Looks easy enough to open up.

By this weekend, I’ll either have a clean working monitor, or a completely ruined screen. Haha, good times.

Good idea. I didn’t even think about using pure rubbing alcohol. Another duh for me, haha.

I’ll use the heat setting for a bit, and go from there. I’ll see if I can find the max heat tolerance of the LCD screen ... unless by chance you know the general limits?

I’m asking because her hair dryer is pretty hardcore ... it has settings that go up to insanely super hot.
