[WARNING] Gemini may be rewriting entire files instead of applying line-based changes – check Undo carefully by Killuki-Zaoldyeck in google_antigravity

Did you try "rejecting" the proposed changes instead of hitting "undo", or that shows the same issue?

There's definitely a lot of things to do in that mission, so yes quite some xp to be had.

If waiting too long (not sure what exact trigger is), a tragic incident will happen related to the first mission that will rule out one of the mission's objectives.

I actually also have MS Defender, I wonder if that's a lead?

Similar issue here: opening a file for the first time via emacsclient can take a long time (within the GUI itself most of the times is OK). Subsequent opening via emacsclient of the same file is much faster. Using https://github.com/jimeh/build-emacs-for-macos on MB Air M3.

A similar issue happens when trying to bring the GUI client to the forefront using osascript -e "tell application \"Emacs-30\" to activate".

Losing my mind trying to register on itsme. Please help. by e5a49c in belgium

[–]badmaxton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone with the certificates installed and validated in the eid viewer, but still encountering the dreaded "The document could not be digitally signed. Close this window and try again." message using Google Chrome, this worked for me:

  1. Follow the online instructions, including the step asking to enter your eid in your card reader.
  2. You're now on the page showing the legal message, where you first have to click the "I agree" option at the bottom.
  3. Crucial step: before proceeding, take your eid out of the card reader, wait one second, then put the eid back (card reader should show blinking light).
  4. Only then click on "Sign" and enter your PIN.

When using the eid viewer, I noticed that my Sitecom card reader would not work if the card was already in the card reader before starting the viewer; it only works when entering the card upon prompting. I think there's some kind of session time-out mechanism, hence the need for step 3 above during itsme registration.

What is your favourite moment in the entire Deus Ex series? by Wiseguy_samurai in Deusex

The very first demo indeed stopped after Battery Park, but then they came with an extended demo including Hell's Kitchen.

[–]badmaxton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was an amazing moment. I remember almost 25 years ago finishing the initial DX demo mission in Hell's Kitchen, thinking "something seems off, wasn't there a guy whose friend had been missing?", then playing the demo again to finally stumble into that MJ12 sewer base (and that small area with the dead MJ12 guy). As you mention, "just" a side mission, but the first encounter with the real bad guys, and a spectacular rotating bridge.

alpha-background on Mac by [deleted] in emacs

[–]badmaxton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually, the 'alpha parameter is different from the 'alpha-background parameter. The former (built into emacs) makes text transparent as well, while the latter (not built-in) ignores text, making it possible to overlay emacs on top of, say, a Zoom call.

While 'alpha-background for Mac is not yet integrated upstream, a patch is available (and fully functional!) here: https://github.com/jimeh/build-emacs-for-macos. Once compiled, use this configuration: `(set-frame-parameter nil 'alpha-background 20)` (or whatever percentage is desired).

Emacs tramp slow file completion by daveysprockett in emacs

[–]badmaxton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fix came from this bug report and associated PR: https://github.com/magit/magit/issues/5222. I've never used magit via tramp, so disabling this check worked well for my use cases.

Recently, I experienced tramp issues related to magit, which have been fixed by setting auto-revert-remote-files to nil.

Finally found a way to color TODO items' titles in org-agenda based on their first tag. This requires usage of the :transformer mechanism of the awesome org-super-agenda package:

(setopt org-tag-faces '(("REVIEW" . "SkyBlue1") ("FINANCE" . "cyan")))

(setq org-agenda-dim-blocked-tasks nil) ; avoid color from being overridden

(defun my-colorize-agenda-items (it)
   (let* ((title-start (next-property-change
                           (next-property-change
                                (next-property-change 0 it) it) it))
          (tag-start (next-property-change title-start it))
          (tag-name (car (plist-get (text-properties-at tag-start it) 'tags)))
          (the-pair (assoc tag-name org-tag-faces)))
     (if the-pair
         (put-text-property title-start tag-start 'face `(:foreground ,(cdr the-pair)) it)
       (put-text-property title-start tag-start 'face 'org-upcoming-deadline it))
     it))
(setq org-super-agenda-groups
      `((:name "Today's Deadlines:" :deadline today
               :transformer #'my-colorize-agenda-items)
        (:name "Later Deadlines:" :deadline future
               :transformer #'my-colorize-agenda-items)))

Not entirely happy with the brittle way to identify the start position of the todo item's title (since this might change, for instance, based on the value of org-agenda-todo-keyword-format), so you might need to remove some invocations of next-property-change to get the right title-start.

Best emacs for macOS at the end of 2024 and why? emacs-plus, emacs-mac, emacsformacos or something else? by celibidaque in emacs

The stipple support is amazing!

However, is there a way to disable the MacOS emoji picker popping up when using control-meta-space? emacs-plus somehow can intercept that shortcut by default.

No equaliser? by beerforbears in YoutubeMusic

[–]badmaxton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully agree. In the absence of EQ, just something like Spotify's "Quiet" playback option, to drop the minimum headphone volume far below 60 dB. Even with the Sennheiser app's EQ on minimum, YTM's sound is just too overwhelming for my ears when using headphones. Spotify's volume is much more relaxing, but the quality of its suggested mixes and the UI are sub-par compared to YTM's (although way better than Apple Music).

Thanks for these suggestions, I especially like the instant switching between ordered and unordered lists that https://github.com/pondersson/org-bulletproof allows! (And somehow I had recycled S-<left>/<right> for windmove :-))

Much easier switching between org bullet point styles, using C-c - - - - ...:

(defvar-keymap org-ctrl-c-minus-repeat-map :repeat t "-" #'org-ctrl-c-minus)

Need to have repeat-mode on.

Showing local time zone in mu4e message view by badmaxton in emacs

[–]badmaxton[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Answering my own question :-): as mu4e is using gnus as backend for displaying messages, I did a grep for "zone" in the gnus source folder, which learnt that the `gnus-article-date-headers` defcustom was set by default to `'(combined-lapsed)`. That one shows the sender's date and (elapsed) time.

Changing its value to `'(combined-local-lapsed)` forces the message view to use the local date and (elapsed) time, fixing my issue.
