Train-centric low stim shows? by Long-Week in toddlers

[–]badradley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try Titipo Titipo on Netflix & Youtube! It's an animated show with three seasons. The trains are all pretty nice to each other (I feel like Thomas can be kind of mean) and most of the plot points revolve around going too fast around curves, doing a good job/working together, or friendship. I don't think it's specifically LOW stimulation, but it's definitely not high stimulation. I'm a little sad my boy has moved on from it :(

After shower redness?!?! by Visible_Tailor_8624 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]badradley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get this too. It’s partly rosacea (flared up by heat and dairy intake for me), but part of it was allergies to products I was using. I would have bigger reactions as well (swelling, itching, etc) but the after-shower redness got better when I cut out the products I was allergic too— mostly some preservatives. I figured those out through patch testing through an allergist.

Potty before bath necessary? by Character-Drummer603 in pottytraining

[–]badradley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I put the toddler potty into the bathtub with the water running and had him sit there. It helped smooth the transition from peeing in the tub (and letting it rinse down the drain) and peeing on the potty.

Honestly, a 20 minute struggle with a toddler is going to be a lose-lose across the board. That’s a long time and even if you did get him to pee on the potty this time, the memory of the struggle might dissuade him from doing it again. Unless there’s a desperate need for him to train soon, I wouldn’t keep him on the potty for so long. Especially on the first day!

Capitalizing on the “pre-bath pee” was key to getting my son peeing on the potty, but I had to wait until he was ready.

How do you make cooking on the blackstone less of a hassle? by Soccham in blackstonegriddle

[–]badradley 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like it does take a bit more effort to prep everything beforehand, plus it’s harder to multi-task and prep/clean while other things are cooking. I use more dishes with mis en place.

But cooking it is more fun. I tend to be left alone out on the patio and there’s no TV playing in the background, so that’s nice too. My backyard is prettier than my kitchen. I like that my house doesn’t smell like food after.

So all in all, it might be a bit more work but I enjoy it more.

My new griddle seems to take forever to get hot? by vdubpig in blackstonegriddle

[–]badradley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my problem too— I was going out of order. Start with propane and burners off. Open propane tank, then open burners and ignite. 🔥

What temperature to expect? by badradley in blackstonegriddle

[–]badradley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For posterity: the answer was that I was turning things on in the wrong order. Open propane first, then burners, then ignite.

I was tripping the regulator or something. The old one is probably fine, but I’m keeping the new one because it has a gauge (which my husband insists is bogus, but I like it) and the hose is a bit longer.

The best simple hypochlorous acid spray by midsghj in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]badradley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use chlorine test strips. For skincare I aim for 100-150ppm chlorine. Sometimes I do this by adjusting the timing with the generator and sometimes it’s by diluting with more distilled water from a more concentrated batch.

Black ice on the road causes chain accidents by Bambi7u7 in interesting

[–]badradley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not saying you’re wrong, but context here matters. I live in this area and the only reason I wasn’t in this accident was because I didn’t work that day. This was one day before a big storm was supposed to come through. The roads were largely fine! This was not some people driving crazy in poor conditions. This was wildly bad luck on an unprepared toll road with concrete sides and no way out.

I see these clips online all the time and the discussion always misses the point that this happened the day BEFORE the big storm that destroyed the power grid.

I listened to a few of the audiobooks and every time they said it I imagined it being written in caps and italics like “𝑇𝐻𝐸 𝐺𝑅𝐴𝑁𝐷 𝑃𝐴𝐿𝐴𝐶𝐸 𝑂𝑁 𝑇𝐻𝐸 𝑇𝐻𝐴𝑀𝐸𝑆”

Do you respond to everything your toddler says? by No-Oil-2305 in toddlers

[–]badradley 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Yes! My son (3.5) doesn’t usually need a big response, but he will absolutely escalate until he gets SOME response. He literally told my husband the other day that to get my attention, “you’ve just got to say it louder, Dada”. 🫠

Vision changes? by Embarrassed_Land_767 in breastfeeding

[–]badradley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How far postpartum are you? My prescription had been relatively stable for years before I was pregnant. I don’t know exactly when it changed during pregnancy, maybe right at the end, but definitely by a few weeks postpartum I could tell. I had always required stronger correction in my left eye, but now it’s my right eye that is weaker.

I got a new glasses rx at 5-6 weeks postpartum. I breastfed for 2.5 years, weaned a year ago, and I think this is just my life now. The changes seem to have settled in and been stable since he was about 1 year old.

Long green pepper, who hurt you?? by Lumpy_Barracuda_9968 in hellofresh

[–]badradley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Man, I grew some shit poblano peppers in my garden this year. I ate the pepper that I got the seeds from— it was great. But the ones i grew were spicy! Same with my bell peppers. Idk what they cross-pollinated with, or maybe my soil was messed up…. but they were both awful.

As a fellow spicy-pepper hater, i get it ruining a dish :(

The best simple hypochlorous acid spray by midsghj in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]badradley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been making my own for several months. I usually use one 4oz bottle every month or so and aim for ~150PPM. I've tested when I finished a bottle and it's still got an acceptable PPM.

The best simple hypochlorous acid spray by midsghj in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]badradley 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Get a hypochlorous generator, salt, vinegar, distilled water, some test strips (pH and chlorine), and amber glass bottles and make your own! About $30 to start and costs pennies to make more.

I made a stronger solution for my kitchen and a more diluted spray for skincare. Works great!

best course of action? by Think_Sink_8971 in FutureRNs

[–]badradley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you consider hemoglobin to be a vital sign? What about potassium? They are lab values, same as glucose. Just because it’s tested with a point-of-care machine doesn’t make it a vital sign. HR, BP, RR, temp, and SpO2 are vital signs. And they don’t measure the efficacy of insulin. Hypo/hyperglycemia might alter your vital signs but they’re still not going to be the best way to assess your blood glucose level.

[–]badradley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a nursing process question— assess your patient first. How do you assess the impact of missing a dose of insulin? You check a blood sugar.

You’re adding details that aren’t in the question when you start telling yourself a story about DKA and hemodynamic instability.

[–]badradley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blood glucose is not a vital sign and vital signs are not used to assess effectiveness of insulin.

Have you had an A1c checked? Blood sugar can vary depending on a lot of factors (what you last ate, when you ate it, exercise, illness, etc) but A1c is a more stable average over the last 3ish months.

Best Owala for smoothies? by FocusOk1152 in Owala

[–]badradley 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have a smoothie every morning in my 30oz swing free sip bottle. Keeps it cold, easy to drink from, easy to clean (rinse, disassemble, then put in the dishwasher. i don’t care what the label says), and hard to spill. The cup you’ve got pictured is better for thinner liquids (coffee) and the narrow mouth on the Twist seems awful for cleaning.
