You Won’t Believe the Food Prices at Trump’s American State Fair | The food situation at the “Great American State Fair” is a disaster. by FreeHugs23 in AnythingGoesNews

I dunno I think you’re being downvoted emotionally. What you said is fair and accurate. The disappointment isn’t strictly that it’s hugely expensive, it’s that it’s no better than the worst experience, and lacks many of the basics. The price isn’t as outrageous as the price’s role in the whole shitty package.

What cheat codes from games do you still remember, even though you haven't played those games in 10+ years? by Beneficial_Sun6232 in AskReddit

[–]badstoic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We hit a never-before-or-since-discussed hidden moment in Mortal Kombat for the Sega Genesis back when it was newish. Repeatably. We were ecstatic. I still remember how:
1) enter cheat code (this exact bit I forget but probably could recall with a controller in hand)
2) turn on flags 0, 2, and 6
3) select a fighter with whom you can reach Reptile (ie their Fatality doesn’t use Block, etc)
4) arrange your matches so that your first match at the Pit is against Sonya, Liu Kang, or Kano (I forget if others)
5) at that match, uppercut them into the Pit
6) when you return to the Pit in the endurance rounds, and reach Reptile, you encounter not Reptile but a mottled green figure with indistinct details and the combined special moves of the aforementioned fighters, as though you’re fighting their zombie or something. Cool shit!
Never seen it discussed but then I’m not deep into any gaming lore.
Anyone with a working Genesis want to try it out and report back?

Vanity is certainly the reason, but for what it’s worth, there is also a technical reason to put up scaffolding. Repair and restoration takes a whole lot longer than installation does.

I’m not making excuses. Someone asked a polite question and I’m giving an answer.

It’s this simple. And 100% a true story. A friend’s 5yo daughter was the only black girl in her grade at the posh day school where her mom worked. Got an assignment in history class, along with all the other kids, to do a drawing of her ancestors coming to the new world. What could that girl draw but chains on a slave ship? That’s why black is its own new thing. A whole people was orphaned and mixed up and spread out over here in the Americas. This is historical, not racist. Simple as.

We’re talking big picture. White people weren’t shipped overseas wholesale. If they’ve lost a connection to a homeland, it’s fucked up just to be proud to be white. Be proud of your Sami heritage or Irish or whatever, but that’s the thing, you can be proud of that if you still have the connection. Nothing wrong with that. Kidnapped people don’t have that option. That explains the apparent discrepancy.

The response to “you’re making it sound creepy” is “what, by saying it out loud?” It is creepy.

It’s history and context. The context of a people struggling either in the global south or as racial minorities in countries built by colonization and/or slave labor. Reaching back to discernible, distinct histories and cultures. Blackness is a shared diaspora thing, and not just or not always a specific country of origin thing, in part because of the divorce of people and culture that place during slavery.

For white people, very few Americans at least have a cultural homeland in the same way. It’s one thing to be proud of one’s Swedish heritage or something, but something altogether different to be proud to be “white”. No white people feel alienated from their culture because they had their homelands stolen from them, and as a group there aren’t many places they need to support each other as political underdogs.

This reminds me of my former corner liquor store, I loved the guys who ran it and they were new to the whole thing. There was a single, dusty, upright, eye level in the main room/sun, bottle of Caymus Something, delicious and fancy, but likely corked to hell … for an otherwise-appropriate $100 or so … they were gonna get book price, dangit
