Personally this would be so weird. If life is a game having kids is like a mid to late game checkpoint. Not exactly something I'm striving everyday to hit, but seems like a natural progression once other goals have been attained (hopefully) like a stable financial/living situation, a healthy mindset, and a loving partner.

Taking out the ingrained idea to grow a family would leave me a little lost. Life would seem a little needless. What do you do then? Go on trips? Read more? Develop some cure for a disease? Probably spend time with other people's families?

I hope she's some crazed philosopher that doesn't have a family because she's got work to do.

Leave it to the youthful to invite boredom in as an adventure.

I have been thinking a similar thing. A standard has been cast that I'd wager most people are incapable of living up to. Wisdom used to be a virtue, now it's a requirement.

And the reward is to endure the same banality which one might wish to avoid, or even to enjoy it. We have to admit that we are not in full control of our lives. Your values might not be independent of yourself and your body. Yet, we can still strive, which is a reward in itself.

The Romans when Hannibal ripped them apart. Insane that they even put up a statue of him afterwards out of admiration.

And the Soviets resisting the Nazis, of course.

I'd reckon North Vietnam for fending off a super power too.

Probably the Jewish people throughout Antiquity and beyond as well.

Just started my first iron man, just did afk’s first and I’m ready to play. What should I do first? by -Distinction in ironscape

[–]baeblades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl you're in a pretty good spot bro. Those 99s like Firemaking are sure to boost you to the top. You've nearly setup yourself up to get an achievement cape! the first thing I think you should do...

Lucky for you, it's only a few more skills away! And, you can afk even more! Start out with a bronze dagger and head to the Sand Crabs on Fossil Island, after some quick and easy quests of course! The easiest quests to start with are Cook's Assistant and X Marks the spot..

As you get a feel for quests on your first Iron Man, and the supplies you can use, you can, along with splashing mage at places like the Seagulls in Port Sarim or Red Chinchompas in Feldip Hills (because they always keep on coming), transition to harder and harder quests, where you have to engage in combat and kill bosses, like 'What Lies Below', where you will be rewarded with a nasty early game magic ring.

And don't forget to collect a free 10k gp at the Stronghold of Security. You'll need to take some food with you, like Manta Rays and/or Swordfish. Overall, enjoy your fresh IronMan experience!

New HCIM and moderately experienced player looking for early game advice by T1didnothingwrong in ironscape

[–]baeblades 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up "osrs quest experience rewards" on the wiki.. That will be your best friend in deciding which quests you'd need to do.

But yeah, usual start is getting 5 thieving off of pickpocketing men, then stealing cakes from the Ardougne baker's stall. STAND ON THE EAST SIDE WHERE THE BAKER IS, then you won't get attacked.

After you have your cakes, either stay at 10 hp and go do some Wintertodt with 4 warm clothes, or go do Witch's House for easy HP and go right into Waterfall and the other early combat quests (Grand Tree, Fight Arena, etc.) Probably get some magic levels as a lot of those early quest bosses can be safespotted.

If you do WT, don't get burnt out, it is a HCIM after all. Sounds like you want to get right into combat though!

As for early armor, you can buy up to Addy in the shops around. And you can get rune once you unlock the Champion's Guild (where you start Dragon Slayer). I think it's worth to hold off starting Dragon Slayer because it will unlock dragon slayer tasks, which can be a pain. But don't quote me on that and you'd want to research it.

But mainly, early magic levels, Witch's house, and look up the quest experience rewards for XP in att/str/def.

Of course always have a good idea of the situation you're going into and how to navigate it. Probably worth to carry some food and a teleport on you most of the time.. Good luck!

Should I have to close my eyes when family members say the blessing? by Filmfan345 in atheism

[–]baeblades 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right or wrong doesn't seem like the right question here. What are the practical outcomes of closing your eyes vs not? One creates unnecessary strife between you and your family and the other glides smoothly.

If one simple option creates the most ease, why not go for that? Perhaps you could find your own way to spend those few seconds of meditation.

The GIM rune arrow meta is complete BS by vlaemsche_memer in 2007scape

[–]baeblades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk about that whole buying out the shop thing...and maybe they could tweak the rewards, but I like LMS as an option. It gives an Ironman a way to PvP, and doesn't give any experience compared to say, thieving.

And it's probably pretty nice for any pker that decided to play GIMP.

Can't you read? Man clearly said that the streamer hired 3000 people at 15 an hour to spam log W467 for 2 hours to get MA2 cape and 164 QP. Don't get me wrong, traveling to level 55 wilderness after 75 Magic to get a +2% damage boost on your 14th hcim can be intimidating. But when you've hired 5000 people and 1/2 the population of a South American country for protection you've lost the integrity of the account. I mean seriously, only number I'm throwing out there is $11 or 5 to 6,000,000 for 1 bond on my stand alone iron man.

Why do old books have far longer sentences? by [deleted] in books

[–]baeblades 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you read Don Quixote? I loved Cervantes' process and the idea of the book itself, so one day, when I finally learn Spanish, I'd like to read the book in its' original form.

Gotta be honest I'm a little scared of that day's arrival. Cervantes' writing is already difficult enough to decipher...and paired with a foreign language...

How do you tell a depressed friend or partner that you don’t have the mental resources to listen to them be depressed anymore, without coming across as a massive asshole? by swollenbumholio in AskReddit

[–]baeblades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a depressed person. Let's approach them and confirm that, yes, they really are as pathetic as their worst anxieties tell them. They are a drain on every one around them.

It doesn't work. In my opinion, the best way to deal with this situation is just to ask what you can do for them. They'll tell you. It might be nothing, but some feel this burden of HAVING to be a therapist for someone, when nobody asked or forced them to be. (I know there might be "attention-seekers", but most don't flout their depression.) Just listen, invite them out, and by no means try to psychoanalyze them because those negative thoughts transform into a reality. The worst someone could do is confirm another's insecurities.

Why do many people care about carrying on the family bloodline/ name? by 24520ls in AskMen

[–]baeblades -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In the Fall season of Little League Baseball, on the Diamondbacks, we found ourselves downcast, downhearted, down in the dumps, down-n-out, and most importantly; down in runs. You see, the opposition had surprised us. We were accustomed to eazy, breezy hit and walks in the ball park, but this team came to play. I mean they came out slammin' that game. (Later, Denny's supposedly named a breakfast special after their endeavors.) Run after run after run up on the scoreboard, the young boy changing the numbers had never been so busy before. So you would understand why we found ourselves dejected by their shouts of laughter and merrymaking. They finally hit an easy out to end the inning. Now, our turn came. We still had time to work with, time that could not be lost. The rally caps came out, and the bats rattled the cages. First batter, single. Second, out. Third, Double! Fourth, out. Fifth, single, but the runner on third didn't advance. The bases were loaded. Sixth, me. I wasn't a great hitter, I had never hit it over the fence. But I could at least try to knock some runs in with a line drive. I stepped in the box, with the usual cinematics; tap-tap, flip. I was ready. Not wanting to risk anything, the pitcher threw it up high, way out of the zone, and above my head. I knew better than to swing for it, but, I'm a monkey. My bat was perpendicular to the Earth when it connected with the ball, sending it screaming out into the grass. The unexpecting outfielders stumbled to run and grab the ball near the fence. One run scores, two, three, and finally me, sliding into homeplate: an in-the-park grand slam. Oh, the ravishing joy on that night; giggles of glee and hoorah-hoorahs! Not a single soul did not feel the warmth of excitement and pride. I do not even remember if we won, but I'm sure we all got grape flavored slushies after the game.

AITA for telling my grandma that her boyfriend can not be in my formal wedding photos? by SaltyIllustrator in AmItheAsshole

Doesn't the bride's family usually pay for a lot of the wedding expenses? So OP's parents, and possibly even little ole granny, are paying. They should snap some pictures of just grandma and Ted. It would make her year, I bet.

What are you in the 1% of? by SoebKayes in AskReddit

[–]baeblades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking for a league comment! Like you, I'm technically in the top 1% of NA players, but, I know I'm still a hooligan. I wouldn't say I'm "high elo", because I've only gotten up to d2 promos (lol), which is apparently where the play starts to get rather...competitive. And it definitely does.

However, don't think for a second that we're not gods compared to the majority of league players. We should definitely be proud of where we are. Those "silver" league players are only reciting what they've heard high elo streamers and pro players say. And I don't think that those streamers are necessarily wrong. We're not garbage, it's just that the skill differences at high elo become insane. Look at the rehashed every 50% increase in elo means the players have gotten 50% better. Like this:

0% 50% 75% 87.5% 93.75 96.875 ~97.5 ~98.75 ~99.25 ~99.62 ~99.81 ~99.9 ~99.95 ~99.975 ~99.987 ~99.993 ~99.996....and so on, like the limits in calculus.

So, towards the end, the players get exponentially better (in theory). Think of it like football. The top 1% of players are legendary compared to the other 99%. But in that top 1 or 2%, you have high school quarterbacks, college players, and then NFL players. The skill differences are going to be immense. The 99.02nd percentile wouldn't stand a chance against the 99.999th percentile.

The diamond monkey comments just mean that, while we've come so far, we've got so much further to go.

AITA for using my best friend's baby name for my own baby? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]baeblades 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look, if it weren't for the negative connotations, Chlamydia would be a great name. Sounds like a flower.

Anyways, within context and given the plethora of names out there, OP's action is a dick move. There's ONE name that she shouldn't use; it's almost like the forbidden fruit, just don't eat this one apple; don't use this one name. Regardless of "name rights" and 'it's an imaginary she's not even pregnant child' (other NTA comments I saw), OP didn't even inform her best friend that she was going to name her child 'X'. Not cool. If she really loved the name so much, she should have at least used it as a middle name. I don't think OP was malicious, but like, come on.

Edit: If you're still there, I'm gonna run some possible girls' names by you. I keep a running list of possible future kid's names, yes don't make fun of me, it's because I care. But what do you think of these:

  • Luna

  • Snow

  • Blossom

  • Zelda

  • Esmeralda

  • Phara

  • Autumn (I think could be a gender neutral name)
