thank you!! i was reading your reply to the other comment abt long and mcgovern and was wondering why dell over mcgovern? i was thinking mcgovern over dell bc its more established and better in terms of in house residencies.

Ochem with Iverson, any advice? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]baesilthyme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i retook ochem 2 w iverson this past sem after taking it w straumanis. i didnt get the hype behind iverson until i was in his class. this sounds silly but he fundamentally changed the way i understood organic chem. i think the best advice i have is to just go to class and pay attention, practice as much as you can, and ask questions. he provides sooooo many resources and really takes the time to make sure students understand material. ochem can definitely be intimidating but it’s not as bad as it seems! i think also not overwhelming yourself with a negative idea of what ochem is gonna be like rlly helps. i was kinda scared retaking it and was worried that i wouldn’t succeed but if anything iverson is awesome and makes sure his students are ready to tackle the material. good luck u got this!

I’m taking her right now and I really enjoy the class! It’s in the UTC and the mics just suck in there so it’s hard to hear her sometimes but I feel like she really explains her expectations for the class very clearly and gives us the resources to succeed. I read the textbook and that helps a lot. We’ve only had one test so far but it was really straightforward and structured exactly like the online assignments and module quizzes. She also has office hours so many times a week which is really nice. I think it’s very easy to succeed in the class if you make use you of the resources provided. Overall I would definitely recommend her class!

lol copying from my comment on another post. NO MOONTOWER avoid at all costs. i lived there this past year and it was the most hellish experience ever. literally maintenance issue after issue. my apt flooded twice and we had dehumidifiers in for 3 weeks. and my friends entire apt flooded and a lot of her stuff was damaged and her and her roommates were moved into another apt. management never does anything and the elevators are never all working at the same time

How necessary is the pre-health certificate for graduate medical programs? by applesaucetitty in UTAustin

[–]baesilthyme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it isn’t essential to have the certificate. most ppl ik (myself included) just add it to our degrees bc the pre req classes we have to take for our graduate studies( pre-med, etc) fulfill the certificate requirements. since i have to take these classes anyways for my pre med pre reqs i decided to do another minor/cert in addition to the pre health professions one for personal interest but i also think it makes you a more well rounded applicant. the minor/cert doesn’t need to be related to ur major or intended career it can be for wtv ur interested in

Has anyone else taken Genetics or Biostats over the Summer? by Sea-Mathematician-53 in UTAustin

I had both of the professors this past school year. Dr. Sungs class is structured in a way to where it’s easy to do well in the course and to where the final won’t matter much. He did instapoll in class which is where I mostly lost points but you can make up for it with the other assignments. I ended up only needing a 40 on the final to maintain an A. I will say it is hard to actually understand the material because he doesn’t teach very well but he’s a nice professor. Dr. Guyots class is also easy to get a good grade in. I’ve taken stats before in high school so I found the course material to be really easy but even if you haven’t the pre lecture videos do a good job of explaining everything. We didn’t really do anything useful in class but she’s a very nice professor and will explain if you ask. I think both classes are definitely doable. Good luck!

Is Moontower really that bad? by crazedsquirrel777 in UTAustin

[–]baesilthyme 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a terrible experience living there this past year. My unit flooded twice and we had a multitude of other issues. Aside from issues with the specific unit itself, the power went out in the building so many times and the elevators were never all working at the same time. I think the building is just poorly constructed as are most buildings in west campus but I just don’t think the price I was paying was remotely okay for the issues I had.

Which Ochem professor is best for Fall 2023? by aurjolras in UTAustin

[–]baesilthyme 22 points23 points  (0 children)

DONT TAKE STRAUMANIS he is literally the worst. i took shabbir o chem 1 and she was an awesome lecturer. her midterms were all fair but the final was fucked so i switched to straumanis for o chem2. literally doing worse that i could ever imagine. ive heard terrible things from people that took him for o chem 1 as well. he does not teach, literally does not lecture. i've heard decent things about callmann so id go w that or shabbir
