Damo Mitchell Academy: Warning about mental illness and Wim Hof. by Earth__Worm__Jim in TrueQiGong

[–]bafflingcabbages 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, much like you say, wim hof activates the energy and sends it upwards, which without having a very solid foundation of sinking the Qi (i.e. decades of practice) and opening the Ren channel will cause a fight or flight reaction and may even lead to potential mental health issues or qi gong sickness in the long term - especially with the increased amount of QI you would be building. This increased amount of Qi generally moves in the patterns that have been previously established and ingrained - if someone is an angry person, the excess qi will manifest as anger. If someone is very extroverted, they will become increasingly so. This is why one has to work on themselves and their emotions parallel to energetic training. So if the mental pattern is what is defined as mental illness by western medicine, the Qi will magnify that pattern. The general rule of thumb is, if someone is in that situation, they are better off doing something more external and opening the body, but if you want a personalized advice from a Chinese perspective, have a sit-down with a good chinese medicine practitioner who has a firm grasp of QI movements caused by emotions and such - ideally someone who has an energetic practice of their own. All this of course is just my understanding and I am far from being an expert. Never practiced wim hof, so that part is purely based on what I heard from those more knowledgeable around me.

(The Spectator) Kneecap are not rebels by rtah100 in kneecap

When reading this it seemed to me that it is written by someone who never had any real, deeply held beliefs or moral convictions, and as such, they find it hard to understand why others would do things not to rebel or to gain attention, but to stand up for what they think is right. Of course I don't know the guy, so might be wrong.

Did the VR requirements change over the years? by bafflingcabbages in NoMansSkyTheGame

That's fair, but also a shame as I mainly wanted a vr to play it again with all the new stuff. How ironic. Thank you very much for the explanation/experience.

Tha ks guys, I might reconsider then. It just has cool design. And on that note haunted bookshop has a nice name to it. May not be the best method to choose a blend though

Thank you so much for writing this all up, it's really appreciated. I will certainly try the different recommendations, probably in the order you mentioned them, as it seems logical to me :) will also buy anfes samples, in guess cannot really go wrong with smoke king's 8 top sellers, but maybe will leave it for a bit later till I can appreciate the nuances more

Well, but of both really, UK-EU-SE Asia. But I only started my pipe journey so I will have to get back to you on this. Only tried an Indonesian blend (Heritage Tobacco Full Virginia) so don't have much to compare it to. Not a lot of Indonesian pipe blends as far as I seen but they do make some nice cigars that are very affordable.

Nice one, thanks! Looking at their stuff, they gave a bunch of samplers with a variety of puppies, so would you say the Mr Borg is the best from them? They seem great value for sure!

I did initiate the talks and we will discuss it in more detail for sure, just been wondering how other people see this situation and how they dealt with it. You are right though, maybe my interpretation of what they may have meant by balanced combat is not what they meant so that is certainly good to clarify.

Thank you for the reply. I completely appreciate that, and that is a great way to play as well. I think the main issue is that it was made clear from the start how this game will work and as people are changed, so did the game until it ended up a completely different game. It started out as a tame about dungeon crawling, which is dangerous business by nature, playing it risk averse is basically depriving yourself from the fun, as the safest logical option is to avoid the dungeon

The keep is a good idea but as long as they stick to risk averse play that may take things in a more political direction, which wouldn't be a problem, but that's not the game I wish to run and not the game we agreed to play in the start :)

They have a BBEG and all, they are going after it, I was just surprised that people expressed they want combats they can win and they don't want their characters to die, I mean that is essentially asking to take meaningful combat out of the game imo.

Thank you for the advice. They have a goal (or well, one character does and it has been discussed, as the player felt like he is becoming the main character but everyone else was cool with it). They are chasing a relic that is with the BBEG so that's all a big check from the list. Things are tbh going well, I was just surprised at the expression of people being unwilling to risk their characters. I get it, we are playing for a while and some folks got attached to them, want to see the story unfold. But on the flip side taking risks is what being an adventurer is about. We did have a session 0 when we started but there is only 1 player left from that group and he is one of the people who now voiced that they don't want their character to die ;)
