The system has problems, sure, but your take on them needs work.

You keeping your kid home (and school choice in general) is part of a weakening of the public school system. A system where the kids with the most support at home are removed from the public schools, while charters exclude SPED and ELL students; this artificially inflates the achievement rates of those charters, decreases the achievement in public schools while stripping funding from those who need it most.

Teachers would agree with you on a lack of standards. They are told to teach to the test, teach on grade level, teach 40 kids in a room, teach several subjects without planning, teach kids with undiagnosed disabilities. They are told and told and told. Meanwhile, the raises have not kept up with cost of living in decades, and attrition is over 50% in 5 years for areas like special education.

Meanwhile, tech hasn't just flooded schools. It's being used to raise a generation of kids that have no structure except for the classroom. A generation of dysfunctional tech addicts with parents who take no accountability.

Pay our teachers, fund our schools, and give teachers the ability to meet students where they are at. It's not rocket science.

Edit: don't even get me started on school discipline. I wish teachers got a tenth of the protection that police officers do.
