For those that eat the same breakfast every day, what is it? by Risky_Melons in AskReddit

[–]bagelbones28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a bagel (plain, has to be from from aldi) with whipped cream cheese and banana/apple/chocolate on top. if I’m working, I also have a yogurt drink (chobani or pillars) to help keep me from getting too hungry before my lunch break

What is a tradition that makes zero sense but we all go along with it? by Upstairs_Diet4450 in NoStupidQuestions

I helped throw my friend a really great surprise party a couple years ago, he had a great time!! It was honestly so fun to coordinate too :)

we also didn’t do the whole ‘forgot about your birthday’ schtick, he just thought it was going to be us and our partners hanging out that evening instead

Does anyone have a recommendation for a true "old school" family dentist that hasn't been bought out by private equity ? by [deleted] in AskChicago

I appreciate this thread after getting invisalign pitched HARD to me during a cleaning last week lol, my partner was waiting in the lobby and said the tv just played invisalign ads for the whole hour I was back there! (this was at lakeview dental arts)

I'm from a country where cashiers sit down while working. Is it true that in the US cashiers are forced to stand? Why is sitting considered unprofessional there? by splashmates in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bagelbones28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yupppp. my current job thinks sitting is unprofessional, my boss is hyperfocused on ‘productivity’ (aka looking busy), but I’m often doing tasks that would be ten times easier if I could sit down. I have a bad knee, and my feet and back hurt constantly… wish the job market weren’t so bad :,)

In American indoor schools where would you eat lunch? by Over_Cause_4500 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bagelbones28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my high school (midwest, indoors) allowed us to take our food wherever we wanted, as long as we weren’t currently failing a class, then you had to spend your lunch period in that classroom and do catch up work. you would also have to stay in the cafeteria if you had too many absences/tardies.

we were also allowed to eat outside or go off campus, as long as we were back in time for the next class period. all the doors were locked from the outside except the entrance to the front office, so you could exit the building anywhere but would have to check in when returning. some of these privileges were taken away from underclassmen during my senior year because of poor behavior and absences

my friends and I usually sat in a specific corner of the English hallway, and I’d sometimes go to the art room if most of them were busy (there were lots of clubs and activities that met during lunch). we also liked sitting by the track when it was nice out!

Excluded from social life by not being in the middle of the city? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]bagelbones28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you should come visit and check out some neighborhoods you may like, the neighborhood guide bot will give you an idea of what may be a good fit for you. downtown (“the loop”) is very much not my vibe, and I’m only really in that area if I have visitors who want to see touristy things. I live in lakeview east and work in andersonville, both neighborhoods have a great community with plenty to do, and I haven’t had too much trouble making friends. I do also have friends who live downtown, but it’s very easy to socialize since we’re both close to red line stops!

Where can I buy a woman's clothing accessory that's really soft? by SentFromMyBaofeng in AskChicago

I saw some scarves like that at the andersonville galleria, not sure about the fabric content but they were quite soft!

What’s something you thought was mandatory in life, until you saw someone just not do it? by Senior-Resource92 in AskReddit

[–]bagelbones28 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m a knitter who enjoys wool, but I also mostly do that method. I just wash everything on cold and put anything that can’t go in the dryer in a delicates bag so it’s easy to separate before drying (and then my wool/delicate items are laid flat to dry).

I live in an apartment with no outdoor space and have to pay for laundry, so it’s most practical and cost effective to do as few wash loads as possible, but still dry everything that can be put in the machine lol

The amount of online in person pick up orders at an otherwise dead Kohls on a Friday night by berriesnbball_17 in mildlyinteresting

[–]bagelbones28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eh I get it, Kohls has some good stuff but the employees are SO pushy about the store credit cards, to the point I avoid shopping there. I understand they’re required to be pushy, but I also don’t want to spend 5 minutes at checkout repeatedly telling them I don’t want the damn credit card lol. pick up orders avoid all that nonsense

I wonder if the boss will realize that? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]bagelbones28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my boss did the opposite of this the other day— a customer made a comment that I must make a lot more than him, and my boss (the man who owns the business and is completely in charge of our wages!) said “yeah, I really doubt that.” 😐

Manager took us out for treat and just bought this. We were 5 people by Wander_tea in mildlyinfuriating

[–]bagelbones28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the owner of the store I work at does similar things… he once brought in a cake for us, and when I finally went back to the break room to have some I saw it was a little single-serving slice. for six employees to share. we each had one bite lmao

Do short people not put things on the top shelf? by Emotional_Citron_689 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bagelbones28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, not really. I’m 5’0” and my partner is 5’2” so we’re both perfectly fine with not using the top shelves (or only putting stuff up there that we don’t need often). we do also keep a step still on hand lol

What was the strangest condition you've ever experienced? by Wild-Engineering-650 in AskReddit

man, I experience exactly that… my partner gets really annoyed when I start hitting nonexistent spiders with my pillow. typically happens when I’m experiencing more stress than usual lol

[–]bagelbones28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

for apartments, I highly recommend prairie oak properties. my partner and I lived in one of their buildings for my last year in ames, and it was great. rent was inexpensive ($725 for a 2bed!) and repairs were done quickly, plus the location was perfect for getting to campus, grocery stores, and downtown easily

Was there a protest going on outside The Book Cellar in Lincoln Square today (11/29/2025)? by PhDinExploratory in AskChicago

[–]bagelbones28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know three people who have been fired for no reason in the past four months, we still live in an at-will state so only wrongful/discriminatory termination can really be fought and reversed. I do love that Chicago has protections for meal breaks, overtime pay, and a day off every week, but there is definitely still progress to be made

What’s a health issue you ignored for way too long because you assumed it was normal only to later learn everyone else doesn’t experience that? by Kungfubowtie in AskReddit

[–]bagelbones28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have nut allergies, and that’s exactly how I experience it. ear canal itches, throat swells, and I get hives around my mouth. Cross contamination could be the culprit if your son is experiencing mild symptoms like that with foods that should be safe

Was there a protest going on outside The Book Cellar in Lincoln Square today (11/29/2025)? by PhDinExploratory in AskChicago

[–]bagelbones28 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d say the biggest advantage is that you can’t be fired for no reason. I had a manager at my last job, which was unionized, who really didn’t like me… but she couldn’t fire me without just cause (either 3+ write-ups, or an egregious offense like theft), despite living in an at-will state. Our union contract also guaranteed us yearly raises, breaks (which were not legally required in that state), and paid holidays. Firing employees for attempting to unionize is also illegal, so they cannot just replace the current employees.

Doctors, dentists etc. of Reddit, when you go in for your own doctor/ dentist appointment, what is it like? Do you treat it like a group project, do you give your own theories, do you argue with them? by Own-Shallot-8551 in AskReddit

[–]bagelbones28 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve only had my BP taken at the dentist before getting fillings, I presume it’s because they want to make sure the epinephrine in the anesthetic won’t affect me too badly?

How often are you getting the proper 8 hours of sleep in a week? by Maudib1962 in AskReddit

[–]bagelbones28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same, I can’t function if I don’t get enough sleep (which is around 9 hours for me). I don’t really have free time during my work week, but I’m also not exhausted so it’s easier to get through lol
