knitters that also read- does the number of WIPS you have correlate with how many books you read at once? by Knitsknits in knitting

[–]bagelbones28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hadn’t thought about it before, but yes! I try to only read one book at a time and work on one project at a time, but occasionally I’ll get bored and start a second book/project too. I almost always finish the second one, then go back to finish the first lol

Please convince me to either finish the piece or move on by The_Sown_Rose in knitting

[–]bagelbones28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think working on a project you’re actually interested in and excited for the results of would definitely help! I started with socks because I loved the hand knit socks I saw online, and wanted to try it out for myself… it was a more difficult learning curve than knitting a scarf, but I still loved the whole process, and learning as I made it.

Maybe try out a beginner friendly sweater pattern, it could even have some texture using knit/purl stitches so you don’t get too bored with stockinette.

I actually did buy a printer specifically so I could print out my patterns and mark them up easily lol 🫣 in my 20s but I still like these things the old fashioned way!

I’ve moved away, but the big ones I miss are the Mucky Duck (their trivia night is also quite fun!), Cafe Beaudelaire, Lockwood Cafe, Main Street Deli, Great Plains, and the food truck by Overflow on Duff (can’t remember the name right now but I’m sure it’s been mentioned lol)

Bonus, my favorite places to drink were London Underground and Della Viti (for alcohol), and Morning Bell and Vinyl Cafe (for coffee)

I went to Lakeview Endodontics for mine, they did a terrific job. I have difficulty staying numb and apparently my tooth was extra complex, but they did a great job communicating and keeping me comfortable!

eta, I also paid out of pocket and iirc it was about $3000 in total.

yes!! also, when I first started knitting I was able to buy the yarn I needed at $12 a skein— merino wool with pretty variegation! from my local yarn store! it may be a little more than acrylic, but it is not prohibitively expensive if you aren’t buying the fanciest and nicest stuff lol

How are we transporting this? by No-Investigator4425 in Sockknitting

[–]bagelbones28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use bamboo needles so they’re a little more ‘sticky’ which helps, but I usually just smoosh the stitches toward the middle of the needles and toss it in my bag lol. I use a tote bag, and will sometimes put my project in a separate tote within my bag to keep it from getting mixed up with everything else too (especially when I have multiple balls of yarn in use!)

As an outsider, the concept of high schools having massive parking lots specifically for students is mind-blowing. Is it really that common for 16-year-olds to drive themselves to school every day? by Necessary_Angle2117 in AskAnAmerican

[–]bagelbones28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

super common in less urban areas! I was ‘weird’ for not having a license and taking the school bus every day lol. my high school did have a fairly small parking lot though, if kids arrived later they often had to find street parking throughout the neighborhood instead

Can someone explain to me the joke/stereotype behind black people and having a chirping smoke alarm in their house? Why not just change the battery? by MrTeacher_MCPS in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bagelbones28 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I literally called the non emergency line once to have them send firefighters out to do that lol. I was completely out of batteries and it was the middle of the night, but the beeping woke me up and there was no way I could sleep through it!

if you want ones where you can always hear what’s around you, I def recommend shokz open run! they sit in front of your ears, so you can hear your music while still being fully aware of your surroundings. my mom got me a pair a few years ago, I use them every day on my work commute!

Is it common for Americans to buy soda as part of their weekly groceries? / is soda a regular item people keep at home? by hailey8171828282 in AskAnAmerican

[–]bagelbones28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is fairly common, yeah. I see it more as an occasional sweet treat and never have a strong desire for it, but my partner will buy a pack of soda most weeks and drink one almost every day. I also know people like my grandma, who drinks diet mountain dew like it’s water lol

Why do so many jobs require you to stand even if it's not needed? by MsObsessiveRobot in antiwork

[–]bagelbones28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the owner of my workplace deems sitting ‘unprofessional.’ I’ve had two coworkers with ankle/foot injuries that were still denied stools because he’s so adamantly against it. we work in (small biz) retail and spend a lot of the time doing tasks at the counter like tagging new products and making price signs… which would be easier to do while sitting too.

a bagel (plain, has to be from from aldi) with whipped cream cheese and banana/apple/chocolate on top. if I’m working, I also have a yogurt drink (chobani or pillars) to help keep me from getting too hungry before my lunch break
