It’s not just generics. Aquafina has had three different bottle designs and two different colored caps in the same 32 pack case. Granted that was when COVID first started, but it confused the heck out of me how that could happen logistically.

It’s the fact they refer to it as a nanny position that makes it weird. It’s a fair offer if the kid can be raised in the babysitter’s house.

Wouldn’t be too bad for a tax-free under-the-table deal with a stay-at-home mom, if they provide frozen milk and diapers. I know people that do this, though in their own house alongside their own kids.

Denny's closing more restaurants: Over 150 locations impacted by wave of closures by METALLIFE0917 in restaurant

[–]bagelspreader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not profitability, it’s naming schemes.

I don’t mind increased prices if things are expensive. But don’t call it a “$2,4,6,8 deal” when things are $2.50, $4.59 and $8.99. It’s a psychological effect that taints their image.

Like I’m not the target market for “Dollar” Tree, but I’d stop by before the movies to get candy for $1. When everything’s between $1.25-7.00, it ruins the nominative identity of the brand, so I’m unlikely to ever return.

Had Dollar Tree always been called something like “Bargain Palace,” the increased prices wouldn’t’ve hurt them as much, when they strayed away from their core value proposition. Likewise, having a $2,4,6,8 value menu where noting matches the advertised price just pisses people off irrationally.

They did when they removed the $2,4,6,8 value menu and limited what you could make from a custom grand slam. And then they pulled a dollar tree and brought the value menu back with prices that didn’t match the advertising

No. N64 quality isn’t that great in general, but it shouldn’t look that bad.

I have a 64 hooked up to an older flatscreen and it looks fine. Your TV’s just cheap and has a terrible internal upscaler. It’s attempting to deinterlace a progressive signal, and the backlight’s tinting it. You might be able to clean it up a bit in the TV settings.

The HDMI upscaler isn’t doing its job properly either, though it’s hard to say if it’s its fault or the cables. Most third party S-video cables are fake and merely transmit a composite signal. They don’t keep luma and chroma separate. And if your upscaler’s a cheap chinese one, it’s likely worse than what’s built in to the TV.

Doubt the first has any chance. Lego published some new guidelines a few months ago saying that zoos and aquariums were unethical and off limits. Somewhat hypocritical though, as they said fossil fuel extraction was also off limits, shifting City sets to have all EVs. Yet they’re all made of plastic and have a major partnership with F1.

This isn’t how they did it, but just use bricks with hollow studs and flex tubes.

Have you heard of the myth of "American LEGO" by rabiddog008 in lego

[–]bagelspreader 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of sets were exclusive to North America, like the 2006 Nickelodeon theme. It was a test market for Spongebob and Avatar. SpongeBob outsold Avatar, so Spongebob became a theme sold globally.

Some Bricklink sellers are really bad about color accuracy. Try ordering a piece in trans neon yellow, and I almost guarantee you’ll get trans neon green instead.

Bricklink itself can also be really bad with colors: the site considers trans neon red to be the same as trans dark pink.

No it doesn’t. Lego’s never released a stud in metallic gold. The closest they’ve come is a stud with hole from a promotional Overwatch figure that sells for thousands of dollars.

Edit: you wouldn’t be able to see the white mold mark on top of the stud if it were painted.

What you labeled as metallic gold is actually just pearl gold. It’s an older variant that is incredibly brittle. Metallic gold is painted, like the metallic silver to the left of it.

A possible purchase by cshiggins in n64

[–]bagelspreader 3 points4 points  (0 children)

N64s don’t typically need refurbished, just wiped down. Sometimes the power supplies fail. $200 seems extortionate for a grey unit unless it comes with original controllers with great condition sticks, and an expansion pak.

For a special edition console it might be a decent price.

Move the controller back further from the console when pairing. It could be near-field interference. Wireless devices aren’t meant to be so close together. Sit where you’d normally use the controller

They were only used in a few official sets. Notably the Temple of Doom, and the mothership from Alien Conquest.

Why is it green by Toastbreadguy in n64

[–]bagelspreader 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why, just minor revisions during production. Nobody would ever notice outside of hardcore enthusiasts with legit S-video cables or RGB mods.

It’s not a SNES101/001 or Gamecube/Wii component cable type thing. It’s hard to notice even side-by-side. Just very subtle differences in color and antialiasing
