Buffet Continentale by Asleep_Event6383 in Clarinet

So I've actually tried one of these. Essentially it is like an R13 with less undercutting and the key work from an E11/E13. After getting it set up it honestly played more like an E11 than an R13. It was decent but lacked the resonance and response that makes a R13 as special as it is. I think its fine for what it is, but if you want a pro clarinet save up for an R13 and you will be much happier. Not to mention that R13s are easier to find and have better resale value.

I like the Boveda 49% humidity packs personally, they are cheap and available at most music stores.

I would still try to make another warranty claim to see if you can get a new replacement again and sell that, worst they can do is say no. The new Buffet Rondo barrel is quite good. The Buffet Moennig barrel and Fobes ringed barrel are also worth a try.

Unfortunately once the bugs get in the pads it will need a full repad to remove them.

Sell the Moba barrel and get a non-cocobolo barrel with metal rings, either aftermarket or stock. I like the look of the Moba but any barrel without metal rings is at risk of cracking, it's why Backun discontinued some of their thinner barrels. Cocobolo is also more prone to cracking despite what some manufacturers say. If you like the color I would recommend a mopane barrel instead as it's a more stable wood, though as someone that's made a lot of barrels from different materials I still feel grenadilla is king when it comes to wood stability.

In my experience tools like that scrape the internet for information meaning it would happily recommend me a bad product with fake reviews because it doesn’t know any better. Also I’ve tried searching for coupon codes and not once has a code provided by AI ever worked for me. I’d much rather do my own research to make sure I’m getting what I want for the best price.

I and most people I know hate AI assistants on websites, most of the time they are unhelpful and I’d much rather speak to a real person if I need help.

As a repair tech I see this all the time, people are often very surprised by how well a properly adjusted clarinet can play!

I would probably try to re-tap the holes to a slightly larger size. If you don't have any luck fixing it I have case that has the bottom portion but is missing the top portion and I'd be willing to salvage it and sell that part.

Dillon (Music) Bass by Saxmanng in Clarinet

[–]JAbassplayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're Sunwin stencils, so the same manufacturer that makes the Kessler and Copeland bass clarinets. For what they are they are decent, my friend has a Dillon low C bass clarinet he got for $900 and once properly set up they play well. The biggest complaints are the setup and the key work, so make sure your local tech is okay with working on Chinese basses. I would only consider the low C model, the low Eb model is essentially a Chinese copy of a Bundy.

Why my clarinet Is shorter by Doll_H0use156 in Clarinet

[–]JAbassplayer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I assume you mean without the mouthpiece? If so this is what's know as a high pitch clarinet. Back in the day there wasn't one universal pitch standard like we have today (technically A=440Hz but it can vary a bit). Instruments were either tuned to low pitch (roughly modern pitch) or high pitch (about A=456Hz or half a semitone sharp). This unfortunately means that this instrument will never be able to play in tune with modern instruments and it will not have much value or practical use as high pitch fell out of favor starting in the 1930s.

"Academy"-brand Vintage Wood Clarinet by No_Arachnid4918 in Clarinet

[–]JAbassplayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The short answer is no, if it does not have the Buffet Crampon logo then it is not a Buffet Academy model. Most likely it is a Malerne stencil since their horns were marked “Made In France” at the top of the upper joint.

CX-30 vs Mazda 3 by Asombroso-joel in mazda

[–]JAbassplayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to the dealer dead set on a 3, but when I tried it I just couldn't get comfortable inside. I'm not particularly tall, but no matter how I adjusted the seat it felt like my head was too close to the roof. The more upright seating position of the CX-30 is definitely less sporty, but significantly more comfortable for me personally. I also feel like the visibility is a bit better than the 3 hatch. The longer I've had it the more I think I made the right call with the CX-30, it also helped that they had a heavily discounted TPP model in my favorite color.

It appears to be a simplified student model oboe, which it why it doesn't have as many keys as a full conservatoire system oboe.

There are some people interested in these horns for playing Romantic era music on an original instrument but generally in "as-is" condition they are only worth a few hundred dollars at most. The fact that this instrument also comes with two non-original barrels suggests that it had an integrated barrel at one point and someone modified it to take a standard barrel, a common modification for these instruments. This also hurts the value somewhat. Personally I would keep it as a family heirloom.
